Z, I would not buy anything until you have stripped down the parts mentioned above by MD and measured(micrometer) for all corect tolerances. Just wasting money and you will not know what problem is and nor will WE when we hear a similiar noise.

Kev,

I would agree with you on that. However, since I will be taking the drivshaft off, I would just be better off replacing all the guibos (rear and front 6 years old, center 4 years old). R&Ring the driveshaft is one of my LEAST favorite jobs, so if I have it off and the components are sort of old, I may as well replace it all and not have to deal with it again.

Most engine work I'm ok on my own. In fact I'm going to have my mechanic do this work for me. So the only 2 extra things I will need are those spherical bearings which are expensive for their size, but not as expensive as all the guibos.

The lightened clutch is something I always wanted, so this would be a good opportunity for me to get it done as well.

Did you figure out which part was causing your problem?

Yes, the rear spherical bearing set at the ends of driveshaft. In my case it was the rear 1/2 of the shaft. There are 3 bearings (excluding the big bearing for the center support). The 2 in the rear 1/2 are of the same size. The front is the biggest. Make sure they are are well greased and the bearings will last you a long time.

Very old post and resolved for the initial poster.

Any chance that this little object on the front of the driveshaft would also cause a rattling noise? Is it the locating bearing mentioned a few posts ago.

(trying to add attachments but not seeing it in the preview. Here goes)

Could be possible, as long as there is too much play, there will be noise.
