AlfaGtv6.com - CLOSING TIME - January 31st 2019.

Post by Michael »

I started collecting GTV6 information in about 1995 and published a rudimentary site on Geocities. GTV6.ORG was launched soon thereafter, I cannot believe its been 23 years now!!! Alfagtv6.com, and the forum in particular has become more and more quiet over the years to the extent that I don't think its terribly valuable to the GTV6 community any longer. Its been a great run but I have decided to close the site on January 31st 2019.

I wanted to extend special thanks to Zamani for the help over all these years, especially since I have not been the most attentive admin in the last several years!

All the best,
Michael

PS: I sold my GTV6 last year but I still have an awesome 3.0 liter 12v engine, I'll have another some day

Very sorry to hear this news however we knew it was coming.

I thank you and all other who participated and helped on this forum for their dedication and knowledge. :P

It has been a great achievement to keep this forum so friendly and full of knowledgeable people. Most other forums often end up with people fighting, swearing or even threatening eachother if they don't agree with eachother. :(

If any member wishes to contact me they are more than welcome to become a Facebook friend...

I got my '83 GTV6 in 1997 and it's still running like a top and is huge fun to drive. I didn't realize that my acquisition was so soon after the forum began. I've hugely appreciated all the information (and entertainment) this site has provided me over the (surprising number of) years. I've downloaded all the site's pertinent files for future use.
Many thanks to Michael and all contributors,
was 'John in Denver', now 'John in Albuquerque'.

Yeah, we'll explore that as well. Those GTV6 FB sites are more for entertainment, not one site on the internet is, OVERALL, as organized and informative as this site.

Don't worry guys, we'll figure out a way. The more I look at the FB based forum, the more I realize how bad those "forums" are.

I think it's time for Alfagtv6.com to have facebook presence to pull in some traffic. The FB page is no good as a technical forum, so it will just be for useless chats. But mostly it should be used to promote this site. Any thoughts or opinions?

I would be interested to get a download copy of the info on this site before it’s taken down.

The info here is huge and FB is in no way the media to tackle all this info.

Let me know how to obtain a copy before you shut down.

Thanks again

Finding a way to save it all for archiving and searching is definitely something you should research. I applaud you if you find a way before the closing.

In the interim, if there is a way to modify the code of this site to allow the view of all posts of a thread on one page, people can print the page to pdf or other such saving actions. I have tried to print or save certain threads but all I can do is one page at a time.

I don't think it would be too difficult to code it as some forums have a mobile option of viewing which has that, I think. I would urge you to do one last code modification this year for that.

I realize that it would be a thread-by-thread saving, but some people might only want (or want for now) certain threads. The ones that they find most value.

Thanks for a great forum.
