Hi, has anyone out there done the diy close ratio box as mentioned in Jim k’s V6 book?
I have a pile of spare transaxles but before I go ripping through them it would be great to hear from someone who has made a successful one.
Thoughts or suggestions welcome.

I built one using a Milano Gold box as a base, installed an LSD and Alfetta 3rd and 4th gears. The ratios were pretty good for our brand of racing, but I managed to bend the main shaft which resulted in 2 broken clutch housings. I have since swapped a set of 83 GTV6 gears into the box to keep the 4.10 and LSD. The ratios are nearly identical to the Alfetta gears except 5th (.78 as opposed to .83)

I had Alfa Parts Exchange build one for me. It's very good for slow turns, you accelerate really hard out of the turns for 2 gears. This combined with a 7000 rpm engine, and you can keep up with other much faster cars. For example, at Buttonwillow on one of the slower turns, I passed an E36 M3 (240 bhp USA version) like he was standing still and he accelerated first.

Thanks for the input. I’ll have to go through some spare gearboxes and see if I have the right ones.
