Need help on the Alfetta GTV6 propshaft
Hello to all,
I am coming close to finishing my project.
I have a 1984 Alfetta GTV 4 cylinder car which I am converting to a 3.2 v6 busso.
Over here in Qz its very hard to find a complete GTV6 prop/tail shaft.
Does any one have one they would like to sell I would prefer to buy in Australia if possible.

Re: Need help on the Alfetta GTV6 propshaft
Has any one tried using an Alfa 75 v6 prop shaft , front shaft is the same length bolt straight on the flywheel and the rear shaft shortened.
Re: Need help on the Alfetta GTV6 propshaft
Friend of mine combined front shaft from 75 v6 and rear from original gtv alfetta 2.0 carbs. It was running ok as I remember.
I'm not shure if some additional mods were required...

Re: Need help on the Alfetta GTV6 propshaft
So Alfaaa1, five months on, got that sucker in and spinning?
From memory the sedans are about 100mm longer in the wheelbase. That means that the 75 Shaft will be too long. It will require shortening bearing in mind the 3 mounting point locations. Front, centre and rear. Any decent workshop working with driveshafts can either make you a complete new one or modify what you have. Done it many times. The REAL problem is getting somebody to balance it. I know that too.

I like keeping the rubber donuts front and back to absorbed the engine pulses and will not cause too much gearbox chatter . But if we had a CV center it will be able to accommodate the engine and transaxle misalignment. What do you guys think?

Hi MD,
I have not yet reworked the prop shaft, Just pained the car.
Would you know the precise correct amount to shorten the 2nd shaft.
I will do it soon.

Re: Need help on the Alfetta GTV6 propshaft
Oh I see.
I didn't think there was any difference in the length of the V6 and the 2.0 rear shaft section.
Lets' face it, it starts at the centre bearing and has to fit into the distance where it meets the clutch input shaft. Since all the gearboxes in the coupes are mounted in the same place , it stands to reason that they would be the same length. This is contingent upon the assumption that the front half of the 75 shaft actually fits between the flywheel mount and the centre bearing.

Re: Need help on the Alfetta GTV6 propshaft
I have a complete GTV6 shaft and the rear section of a 75. The front pieces are the same as I've used the 75 front piece in a GTV6. I'll dig the 2 rear sections out and measure them if you still need that info.

Hi David,
It would be great if you could confirm the rear tail shaft measurements.
