Hi all,

a friend of mine has changed the clutch on his 1987 gtv6, which ran without any vibrations before. Now after the clutch is changed, there are vibrations in the driveshaft upon 2500rpm.
I had the same problem before, but we changed the clutch 2 times, and now the vibrations are gone !!!

What could be the problem?? Is there a problem with the mounting of the clutch or something else ????

If you didn't line up the balancing marks upon taking it apart and then replaced it in exactly the same position, you could have an out of balance vibration from the flywheel/clutch assembly.

Where is the vibration coming from? The rear of the car or under the floor generally?

Where are these balancing marks, are they on the flywheel/clutch/driveshaft ???

The clutch was replaced by an Alfa Romeo specialist...but because we have the same effect on 2 different cars, I think there is a problem with the re-mounting of the clutch/flywheel/driveshaft...maybe he didn't take care of these marks ???

The vibros are felt like coming from the floor...but it's difficult to say exactly where.

My first suggestion was also an out-of-balance due to the repalcing of the clutch...but I don't know yet where to search for.......

So - last year I did a driveline rebuild but I may not have alligned the front of the driveline to flywheel. After reading your post, I'm thinking that may be the reason I have vibration. Did you ever resolve your problem? Chris in Oakland CA

Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner.

There are no factory balance marks that I am aware of except maybe on the clutch/flywheel assy.

You need to make marks yourself by applying marking paint or some other technique to register the assembly in the position it is in before taking it apart.

This goes for driveline and the clutch.

If you didn't do that, your stuffed. You need to take it all out and have the drive line and clutch & flywheel assembly balanced anew.

Be sure you fit it back in the NOW MARKED BALANCED POSITIONS.

Take the oportunity to replace any worn doughnuts , centre bearing , clutch etc along the way as required before having the items balanced.
