MD , not yet. Going a bit slowly but I will take rear window out now that it all fits and all bolt hole line up. So plan is to loosen it all up and put a thin wipe of silicone around the edges and then retighten - wipe excess away.
(Ps MD - I still have not got headset for skype) . My first attempt of making lightweight rear bumper was not good as its looks bent. It does weigh 3kg though.
Plan is to make the whole front bumper and spoiler(GTV 3.0) into one unit. This will look 100% real from a few metres away. I have to make the car look totally origional. It will also enable me to lower the car more without having to remake a trailer I just bought as I can just remove t with four bolts. To keep its rigidity i will put that expansive foam in it.
By the end of this project I will have the moulds for every panel of a GTV 3.0 L.

Maybe MD's subtle style didn't work so I'll give it a go:

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DON'T USE SILICONE!!!

Use Sikaflex, please. You will be a happier man if you do so.

Silkaflex is a brand name of a polyurethane sealant. Try the hardware store and look for roofing sealants. Paint won't stick to surfaces that have seen silicone and i don't think stripping to the fiberglass will help.

Boat yards, roofers, and probably about 20 more lines of work that I've enver heard about, just as Ziggy says it's PU-based.
Silicone is for bathrooms, maybe. 8)

Also reputed to be used by JK for repairing his damaged condoms I have heard...

Doin' a great job Kevin, keep up the good work mate. If you get a brand called "Selly's" over there, they also make a generic polyurethane cartridge. You probably have it in you building game inventory but you don't know it. Various formulations are used in expansion joints in the construction game. Anyhow I am absolutley positive you now have the message..

Kevin,

We DO get Sikaflex in South Africa. Try http://www.sika.co.za for contacts. Maizey Plastics also sells the stuff. http://www.maizey.co.za/content/view/17/156/. They have a branch in Edenvale somewhere. I have used it a lot to secure aluminium labels to machined enclosures. (we now use an acetone activated contact glue).

Just make sure to wear latex gloves when you work with it, because it's difficult to clean it off your hands once it is on (experience).

Jes, and all along I only thought silicon had two uses.
Frosti bring your car along on Sat mornings. Working on race cars with your mates is a lot of fun . You actually stop procrastinating and get stuff done .
