With the oldest GTV6 nearing 40 years in service, a forum to document projects and restoration seems sensible.

Thanks Md! I do feel sad the Alfa Fairies came to your shed in the middle of the night and removed your last decade of Nobel Prizes for your innovation on race cars. I really do hope they left all your budgie smugglers behind as I would hate for those to turn up in the Mack truck :D
Look forward to seen your progress on the 3.2 GT track car.

Work continues . The only available bushes for the Watts linkage are polyurethane so no choice here. The centre bushes proved tougher to press in so used two washes and a bolt to pull it through.

Some people leave the washer out which goes behind the centre linkage bush . Don't , this pushes the bushing out.
Got some new copper spray and applied the usual dose. I have seen these bolts seized in body work and ended up cutting few out. Hopefully this be good for the next 20 years .

The original anti roll rubbers and drop link bushes have been used. I don't see need for poly here on road or race cars. I have noticed a few guys even on race cars leave the drop link bolts loose so the rear rolls a bit so to get that initial traction before the bar starts to come in play. Interesting discussion on that topic or even leave the bar off !
Also amazed on Alfas solution on centring the anti roll bar with two rubber strips and a pair of jubilee clamps. Works well so it all goes back as per factory !

Started some fit up of parts ie the prop , brake lines and rear anti roll bar . I have noticed a kink in the clutch line which I must replace either entire line or try ferrule into the hard steel tube ... Looks like 1/4 inch .

Thankyou ( ALFAGTV685).
It does get repetitive but they are always small things that catch you out or worth checking on a GTV to keep it in good shape.
My plan from the beginning is to redo the entire underside mechanically to make this car feel tight and direct without to many modifications. If I had not sold my original Autodelta 28mm torsion bars I would have put them on. I will be using 15" wheels but starting my search on the best tyres you can get in the 205/50/15 profile .... Maybe even 205/55/15 ... .

I found the steering had quite a bit of play and thankfully it's not inside the rack. The one track rod ball joint was was badly worn . The boots are still like new and no cracks so no need to replace.
The new track rods are never coated and I find the rust quite quickly on the UK roads in winter so I have given these a coat of black Hamerite.

I painted about a centre meter down the thread on the track rod as that never gets used. Applied loads copper grease here and making sure the serrated washer goes back.
I checked the steering bush as had this fail on at least three of my old GTV6s and seen two here in the UK ! The rubber bush slowly delaminates in pulls out the housings . First signs your steering is off centre and more than likely the horn does not work as the wire snaps.

Thought I would get the fuel line cleaned up and assembled into the car at same time to get that out the way. The steel fuel line had zero corrosion and a light wipe brake cleaner took the underseal off. I had a spare nearly new pump which I fitted to a new filter. As I was fitting this up I noticed the vibration bobbin mounts were perished so ordered a pair of 20x15x6mm mounts and started assembly. If these mounts break off and your connectors to pump ate exposed this could be a hazard ! Plus a sweating hose ! My car had all three issues.
Sorted all three Now !!

Fixed the fuel line and bobbin mounts now to attend to the connectors and install.

Things are progressing well and it's nearly time to start assembly. Still got front brakes and wheel bearings to compete in the suspension area. Hoping my brakes discs arrive soon.
Got cracking with the wheel bearings first thing. Takes me about five minutes to press in enough grease into each bearing to make sure they are fully packed. You just don't want the rollers to skate on the first few miles. I'm a big fan of Timken and FAG bearings so happy to to use these. Thanks again to Alex to use these specific tools to tap the bearing shells in. Still got to paint up the hubs on outside.

Brake discs still not here so thought will continue with the calipers. I'm reluctant to paint them as I find it always comes and I don't have correct facilities to do this. The cleaning pot becomes helpful again :)
Out of interest the red paint on the calliper is a factory inspection marking. You find yellow on the gearbox , blue on the torsion bars and there are few other areas as well. Think I might try take a whole bunch of pics of this later.

I got new brake lines. They are steel reinforced and look original so have not opted to go the Goodrige brake line route. The box of plating parts helps bling up the area even though most would want the calipers painted. To get things together I just loosely fitted calipers to hubs until I get the discs. I checked the dust seals on the Pistons and they are still soft and in good shape.
The quality of powder coating can really be seen on the brake splash guards.

South Africa must be the only place that 4 stud wheels were fitted to GTV6's I have never seen a GTV6 with 4 stud wheels. your wheels look great but they look so odd with 4 wheel nuts.
