Seems a bit tight to fit a piece of sheet metal under the lock-nuts as you can see.

On top of the locknuts looks a bit better...

Measuring across.

So, any ideas? Would be nice to add some stiffness by bridge the oilpan flange and the main cap nuts like Jim Stecks design but I'd like to add a piece covering the crank to let oil drain away from the crank as it rotates.
Have anyone here done this?

Maybe it's time to do a CAD study...

:? had the same drawing, I think.

Recently converted it into UG but didn't take the time yet to make a 1:1 plot. And place it onto the TS bottom end.....

TS should be the same, the dipstick is not in the same position but everything else should line up.
Why plot it when you can lasercut it?

 Couldn't convince my boss to buy a laser cutter yet ( or ever ).
The adding stiffness story, I wanted to have a look at that first, before taking this route.

Looks like Jim Stecks design to me...

But anyway, I want to add something that covers the crank and I'm not sure I like that the exhaust side is closed up like that.
Looks stable though. :)

Did some pre-prototype testing today just to try some stuff, took some pics for you guys, this is what I meant

Opening up the exhaust (downward) side by adding a slot where the line is or just cut away the whole area inside the line and dotted lines?
Image

Add a second piece of sheet metal under the crank to keep the air controlled and the oil drained down to the sump, maybe something like this?
Image

This is just a test of course, the "louvres" are supposed to be at a tangent to the crank. This is just to give an idea of how it could look.
Image

So, any thoughts?

I have done a complete CAD model of a new prototype, I have had so much other stuff to do lately (and the guy that does the cutting has been on vacation) so I haven't got around to do any solid stuff yet.
Hopefully I'll cut some metal soon.
