The 86 does not use dual vacuum retard/advamce module like 81-82 models. It only has advance module.

Check clearance on exhaust push rod as a possible source of your clacking noise.

If cam timing correct and belt did not split not likely you bent a valve. Run a compression test to see what you got.

Do you have V6 cam pulley tool (spanner) that you could hold aux shaft gear and check bolt for looseness/tightness? Do not use timing belt to hold gear while you check bolt bolt with a wrench. If bolt looks tight but will loosen without much effort loosen it slightly and try your distributor movemen...

That won't help on 81-early 83 as ignition system different from 84 up. System very similiar to Fiat X1/9 with external ballast resistor and Aluminum coil module box. Even pick up coil in distributor is different.

This happened to me, but may not be your problem. I bought a bad running GTV6 some years ago and ignition timing was all over the place. Turns out the aux drive pulley for oil pump and distributor had loose bolt and had a groove worn around dowel pin so gear would advance and retract on dowel pin. I...

Re: Timing Belt

Steve, It looks like it was the wrong belt a Dayco 94411. Dayco specifed a 95120 on their web site. That is being sent. It is interesting in that the label on the box says 164 3.0, maybe it is a euro spec or there is a slight diff between the 2.5 and 3.0 belt. The most obvious diff is that the teet...

Why not the other way around

Alfa 3.0 conversion into Biturbo Maserati coupe would make more sense. Much more room in Maserati for Alfa set up than for Maser in GTV6.

Driveshaft picture

This picture I posted of drive shaft parts breakdown is from Alfa parts CD not shop manual. It is actually for the 75 (Milano) as that is oldest model on parts CD. Part numbers are the same for GTV6 though except for front shaft as GTV6 one has a spliced coupling that Milano does not have. As for th...

Front grease seal is 60522064 (IAP 29754) still available is item 2 in picture. Item 3 is spherical bearing that slips into flywheel. Same on GTV6 except GTV6 front driveshaft has a removable spline front yoke. Mark it before you take it apart if you do. Same with mid spline for center yoke. If driv...
