Supercharging a 12 valve - 164 or 164S?

Hi all. Yes, I'm back again - it's amazing how quickly time passes! Well, I now have at least some of the bits to start working on and I would be grateful of any comments/pointers advice you have to offer. To recap, I have a Lancia Montecarlo, which I intend fitting with a supercharged 3.0 litre 12 ...

Re: JK's v6 book

Just had an exchange with the editor again. He sees the book being sold in July. it will be much larger than originally planned (~75kwords instead of 50k) and the sale price will reflect this increase. There will be no 24v install/dyno info as there is no time to do any of it at this time but there...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Hi mate,

thanks for the compliment! I'm in the process of amassing the bits for the megasquirt install at the mo and researching as much as poss on the V6 install, but work is a bit (for that read VERY) quiet at the mo, so unfortunately it's not full speed ahead - yet!!

Cheers

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Since you are (i think) looking to transplant a whole front drive engine/transmission unit you wont have to alter the oilpan and waterpump arrangement of the newer engines if the rest of the packaging works. You may still want to change things around a bit...and now know that can be done easily eno...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Thanks for all the tips and pointers guys. I think the best thing for me to do at this stage is to go to somewhere like AutoLusso and take some measurements of the 12 and 24 valve engines. I know for a fact that the 12 valve will go in without any modification at all. I'm not sure that the same woul...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Darren, You will find that there are 2 areas that wear on these engines(12v)....cams and lifters...and cylinder liners and piston rings. After getting into mine and finding the broken ring (compression test showed this) I found the lifters were pitted, the cyl. liners were worn and the main bearing...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

MD is right here. Buy what you want and expect to build it. I bought a 12v 3.0 out of a wrecked Milano that was a "runner". I bought it for an ok price and found a broken top compression ring on disassembly. I'm now building it how I want it. hth zig Hi Zig, I'll keep scanning ebasy, the ...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Darren, My suggestion would be to scan the papers and other media that cars are sold through.Even the Alfa club magazines and web sites. Buy it privately and negotiate. Forget the dealers for now. Be patient or be prepared to be ripped off. At the end of the day you can never be assured of getting ...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Darren, I don't know how relevant this is to you but in Oz, it is generally more feasable to buy the entire car if it's on it's way to the motor wreckers as they rarely fetch more than 4-500 AUD for anything. On the other hand if you want to buy just an engine from the same motor wreckers you could...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Hi Zamani, Onto more exciting subjects! All of my supercharging work has been on the 12 valve and the Nord 4cyl. In the U.S. it's the 24valver that's rare. I honestly think I have only seen three or four in my life, and only worked on one once. If the engine is super common in Europe than it's prob...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Greg, OK now back to the topic at hand, I like 24V because emission wise they are cleaner for the same amount of power output. Now this may not be a concern if your car doesn't have to go on a smog dyno every 2 years. Also 12Vs are sort of abundant here. You may even find some from Vince Bachu in B...

Re: Hi from a Lancia Nut!!

Hi Darren, To order a book from my site, it's best to email us. Then Misty can send you a correct Pay Pal invoice. As an alternative, your friend in Philly can call us and pay over the phone with a credit card. Either way is fine with us. Greg Thanks for that Greg - I'll drop him an email and ask h...
