Re: New GTV6 project, 1981 Rosso

Hi Michael, I have dismantled and reassembled most of the wiring under the dash of my car but have never seen a device like that before. The only white/ red wire I have seen is from the speedo pulse generator/ sensor to the speedo. But yours is a bit heavier gauge than I would expect. On my GTV6 the...

Re: GTV 6 2.5 V6 running problems

I would check the distributor first! I have just got over a year of poor running with a 3 litre. I tried all the obvious things listed, had the injectors cleaned, and fixed a few leaks. All gave small improvements but did not give a complete cure. Turns out that the distributor was partly siezed to ...

Re: Hello from relocation to UK

Hi Kevin and welcome to the UK. I am about a mile down the road from you in Long Ditton! I am a member of the AROC, and the Surrey section has a regular meeting on the third Monday of the month, alternating between rural Surrey and Malden Rushett which is about 10 minutes away. There are quite a few...

Re: Radiator & Thermostat out. Anything else I should do no

Kevin could be right on the money. I used to have problems with overheating in slow traffic after 20 minutes- even here in the UK. I just got used to having to switch the fans on using a similar arrangement to bypass the radiator switch. Then one day I was checking that the fans were still working (...

Re: Ignition Switch Substitute

IIRC Italian cars generally do not have a position for 'accessories', even my relatively modern (2002) Fiat Seicento does not have this position. Really annoying when connecting a radio. I suspect that the green wire may be for illumination of the switch which I think is connected to the door light ...

Re: Alfa romeo v8 engine

How about an engine from the current 8C?

Better still, how about getting hold of an engine from a recent Maserati and changing the cam covers? After all, that is where the engine in the 8C came from so there is a precedent

Re: Road Trip

Simon, Great trip, great pictures, great car. I have just returned from a week in the Basque country, travelling between Bilbao and Birritz, and have to agree with your statements about the trip 100%. Roads are great and generally not very busy at all away from the towns. I found myself wishing that...

Re: '83 GTV6 wiper problem

As I recall, the relay is accessible without dismantling anything. You will need to drop the fusebox though. It is fixed by a self-tapping screw to the bulkhead. Like anything to do with wiring in dashboards, be prepared for a bit of contortionism, but look on the bright side- at least it is possibl...

Re: '83 GTV6 wiper problem

Hi from Surrey (alright, outer London)! I had a similar problem with my car a few years ago after a particularly wet day out. When I turned to the left the wipers would come on regardless of whether they were switched on or off. The problem in my case was traced to the wiper relay which is located b...

Re: 83 gtv6 engine quits

I had this problem for a while, with a slight twist. The car used to cut out totally when I hit the rev limiter and would not run for a while, then it would start up and run fine as if nothing had happened. The problem was eventually traced when I was giving it an 'Italian tune-up' one day and the m...

I had to do this when I first bought my car 10 years ago. The cable on the drivers side had snapped. The solution I adopted was to get some cable of the correct gauge from a chandlers with the crimp on bullet ends and cut it to length when I had installed it. I am not sure how critical the length is...

I had a similar problem once. In my case, I had a sump full of petrol after some major bodywork (new sills). When putting the ECU back in place I managed to chafe the wiring with the result that some of the wires were bare and were shorting out, dumping lots of fuel which worked its way into the sum...

I had some work done on my silver over grey 1984 car a year or so ago here in the UK, and asked them what colour they used for the grey. I have a copy of the formula but it is all gibberish to me. The bit that I can understand says Alfa Romeo 604 Grigio Scuro (1)(S). It looks OK to me, but then ther...

Hmmm.... I have exactly the same problem with my car, again with two separate alternators. I need to spin the motor up to 3000rpm to get the alternator to wake up and start cahrging, after which it is fine right down to idle speed. I have checked the voltage output from the alternator and the warnin...
