engine rebuild

I have to agree. If you are going to do a rebuild, it would be a better idea in the long run to replace them all.

Weight issues

Check out the Odyssey PC680 battery, it is about 15lbs. Great way to lose some weight. Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 wheels, 13lbs and $170 each. Excellent value. Hood and trunk lid/hatch-great place to lose weight by substituting carbon fiber. A note about HP to weight: Consider that a 3000lb car with 2...

EZ-L, etc.

Your 86 GTV6 should have a vacuum capsule, connected to the throttle body. This produces advance only at part throttle conditions. At large throttle openings, there is no additional vacuum introduced. As an example, on my car, with part throttle to take RPM above 4000, my advance with vacuum connect...

Sounds

Hi-
I would consider checking the rear wheel bearings. If you jack the car up you can check the wheels for any play. The rears are a bit of a pain to swap out.
Hope that helps,
Al

gearbox and other noises

The sound that varies with steering inputs sounds like wheel bearings. I don't know about anybody else, but I have found that GTV6's seem to be tough on them. I think the wheel cup seals leak, and moisture does the rest. Now that I have spacers on the racecar, I really need to watch the front wheel ...

Tropic-aire repair

Hello- here is a copy of the post I made to Alfa Digest about my A/C repair: The "auxillary circuit," as I will call the under-glove-box unit, was connected to the main circuit via an electric valve, under and next to the coil. Powering up the aux. unit showed pitiful airflow, since the ou...

A/C

I just got done resurrecting the A/C on my 86 GTV6. I replaced the condenser with a parallel flow unit from www.ackits.com and put a new receiver-dryer on it. I am still using the York compressor, but have a Milano unit on the way. I charged the system with R134, and it seems to work as well as it e...

Sway bars

Right now I am using a 0.120" wall hollow front swaybar (Speedway engineering), and the stock GTV6 rear. I can't use coilovers in my race series, so I had 33mm front torsion bars made. I modified the lower coil perch in the back so I can use 11" "stock car" springs. 200 lb/inch s...

Swaybar

The 24mm front bar will improve the handling on your Milano. The 27mm "Shankle" bar is also good, if you can get it. Don't bother putting a stiffer rear swaybar on the car-it will make the car handle worse, not better. In fact, for my race car, I am considering putting a thinner rear bar o...

Flex joint, etc.

So, if we were to use the stiffening plate on the 3 driveshaft yoke bolts, what template would we use for the holes? When the metal band is around the flex joint, the bolts go through fairly straight. When you release the band, they flare outward slightly. Should we strive to prevent this outward fl...

Guibos

The 3 lugs that attach to the driveshaft yoke are free-floating. The 3 lugs that attach to the flywheel are joined centrally to the middle of the donut. However, JJ has evidence that the driveshaft bolts are able to flare outward despite this. I was considering using a plate like this on BOTH sides ...

Tropic-air questions

I am attempting to resurrect the A/C on my 86 GTV6, and have some questions: 1) There is a valve inline going to one evaporator. What do the wires connect to? What signal activates that second circuit? 2) The receiver dryer has two pressure switches. Which is which? 3) I am going to use R134, and wa...
