Re: Re-furbished speedo and tacho needles
Toothpicks, preferably flat plastic ones. Wooden work too, you just have to paint them (I used WhiteOut). Affix with a dab of whatever clear-drying glue is handy. Elmer's works fine in my experience. I tried various scrap plastic bits and they actually seemed too heavy, so much so that the weight af...

Re: low speed whine in left front wheel
Driver's side bearings were COOKED. The nut was loose, although pinned, and the spindle was darkened, although not scored or otherwise damaged. Several of the roller bearings were seized and the races were in sad shape. Grease was plentiful and no rust, so I assume whoever last replaced or inspected...

Re: Help-removing lower ball joint? Greg Gordon there?
I ended up having success with the U-Joint/ball-joint kit from my local Advance Auto's tool loan program. It's basically a great honking C-clamp with various cups and fittings. It worked like a champ with a bit of fooling around with the setups. There's a ram that fits into the screw, which if remov...

Re: low speed whine in left front wheel
Same here. Same sound and same conditions. Since I'm in the process of rebuilding my front suspension and have no idea about the condition or providence of my wheel bearings, I'm doing them too. New bearings and races and some high quality grease. I'll let you know.

Re: Help-removing lower ball joint? Greg Gordon there?
Infuriating. Got the old one out after about two hours of tapping, whacking and pleading. It looks like it had rusted together. I thoroughly de-rusted the A-arm socket and got to work with the new ball joint. It's a Frap from IAP, which I've heard not great things about but it's the only one I could...

Re: Help-removing lower ball joint? Greg Gordon there?
I'll give the dual whack method a try first. Totally forgot about that! I saw it on a TV show at some point in my life as well... Overhaulin' maybe? Monster Garage? One of those. Anyway, I've let them soak in a bath of PB Blaster for a couple of days now. I have a nice, fat screwdriver that might wo...

Re: Help-removing lower ball joint? Greg Gordon there?
I should have read this before starting mine. My situation is EXACTLY the same as the original post. I've tried all suggested methods and still no luck. As far as I can tell, my ball joints are original so who know what will need to be done to remove them. Is it possible to remove the wishbone witho...
