Re: Adding Material To The Inlet Ports????

I did it to the inlet ports on my 12v 3L. I used devcon titanium putty (recommended by Devcon). I haven't run the motor yet though, been busy on other stuff. I'll let you know how it works out though (Richard Jemison told me it is a bad idea and I should "remove that plastic"!).

Re: 3 liter, 24 valve engine project

Michael, Chemical welding (JB Weld or some other metalized epoxy) or low temperature braising (Alumiweld from Harbor Freight but made in USA...) would probably work. I am currently braising together an enlarged intake for my GTV6 but it is tricky and it takes alot of heat. However I guarantee there ...

Re: Secondary Pipe Tuning???

Pipemax also outputs stepped primary tube specs. A smaller dia tube is used for the upper half and a larger diameter for the lower half of the primary tubes. I am thinking about using the upprt halves of my old shankle headers as-is (with the 1.38" OD tubes) but with a new lower part (below the...

Re: JK 24v 3liter ..at last!

Jim, There is some interesting info about the stock plenum here: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/engine-management/172769-v6-indiuction.html This indicates that with the stock plenum there is poor air distribution at high rpm (with a modded 12V). It will be interesting to see how your modified plenu...

Re: 3 liter, 24 valve engine project

I would need a cam reference sensor (and maybe Megasquirt III?) to go true coil-on-plug but I think I could fire 2 coils simultaneously in the same (3 ignition channel) wasted spark configuration as I have now without issue. According to the DIYautotune tech support (who I bought mine from) the MS2...

Re: Shankle Exhaust Secondary (Header?) Collector 3 pipes to 1

You could have the hole welded up, if necessary a patch could be welded to it. If the copper gasket is not torn then you could anneal it (heat it with a propane torch to soften it up) and just re-use it.

Re: JK's v6 book

Jim, I was curious about the Cat Cams 1030321 and 22 so I plotted them in excel using the data on the catacams website. They give you lift at 0.1 mm, 1 mm, lift at tdc and peak lift. I had to add a data point with a faked duration at about 9 mm (0.35") lift to get the profiles to look right. I ...

Re: worn cam, clatter

I would not try to crank the motor with the cam out. If the pulley comes off then you will bend the valves on the other bank. I think a better way to do it would be to remove the timing belt, take off the dist. cap, rotor, and dust cap and turn the oil pump with a drill motor chucked up to the dist....

Re: JK's v6 book

Jim,

That's great news about your book. Thanks for all of the hard work!

Aren't you using motronic? Do you think the idle instability has anything to do with the flapper syle AFM?

If so maybe one of those aftermarket hot wire AFM's would help.

Re: Milano Twin Turbo

Greg, I did a quick pressure drop calc with a compressible flow program..... I based the calc on 100%VE at boost pressure, 7000 rpm, 204 F turbo outlet temp, 140 F intercooler outlet temp, 1 psi drop across intercooler, 10 psi at the throttle body, estimated pipe lengths, fittings. I used 2" tu...

Re: Milano Twin Turbo

Greg, That really is a nice job! It looks like it was a pain to route that passenger side compressor outlet pipe over and merge it with the drivers side pipe at the intercooler inlet. That longer pipe with bends will produce more pressure loss, take longer to compress, and the passenger side turbo w...

It would be easier to see if the hall is working if you can slowly crank the engine by hand since it produces a voltage signal twice per crank rev.

Re: Aluminum fly

My machinist first determined the imbalance on his dynamic balancing machine. Then the flywheel was lightened. He then put it back on the dynamic balancing machine and drilled holes to match the imbalance before removing material (you can kind of see them in the pic). In order to get the machinist t...
