You shouldn't have 12v at both terminals, it should have (if I remember this right) 12v on 1 terminal and the other one should open and close to ground. I have had a similar problem and it turned out to be a short in the back of one of the injector plugs. This effects all of them because they are gr...

Here's what I'm talking about with adapting the 24v flywheel to gtv6 tailshaft.

Ok, I ended up buying the tensioner bearing and machining up my own idlers that take 2 x 6203 deep groove ball bearings.

I measured my 24v flywheel bolts - they are too short for what I want but they are definitely M12x1.25, not M12x1.5 (I measured the 2.5 12v engine that I have pulled out)

The only thing I had to do was to get new bolts to the flywheel since its a different thread in the Q4 crank than in the 12V engines Now you have me worried - I know that the 12v engines have M12x1.5 thread, what does the 24v have? I am going with the 2.5 bell housing and retaining the standard 24v...

I'm using a 2.5 housing on my 24v.
I think it is only the crankshaft that is 4 mm shorter.
Either use a gtv6/75/90 flywheel with a 4 mm spacer or adapt the standard 24v flywheel for attachment to the tailshaft.

Ok, answering my own question here.
The 164 24v engine has a different pump to every other engine.
The 156 / 166 / GTA pump does not fit and neither do any of the 12v ones .

So now I need to find a waterpump for an engine that was never imported to this country. :(

No, you only need that plate if you use a RWD 12v flywheel.
The adapter you need to make picks up the 8 flywheel bolts and allows you to bolt up the GTV6 tailshaft coupling. Basically a thick flex plate is the answer.

Michael -
Tensioner bearing - 633254
Idlers - 2 x 636072
Both SKF numbers.

Barry -
I thought the idler was bigger than the tensioner, does the tensioner have enough adjustment to take this up ?

I used a 2.5 flywheel and bell housing on a 164 12v engine in my Dads car with no problems.
I'm using a 2.5 bell housing and the original flywheel with an adapter on my 24v conversion.
I don't know if there is a difference between 75 2.5 and 3.0 flywheels.

I agree, you need the bell housing but you can use the 24v flywheel and make an adapter. This way you keep the original balance.

Thanks Michael.
I am currently trying to get them direct through SKF - I have the skf numbers for both.
I hadn't considered replacing the tensioner, I was going to set it up using Barry's method - nowhere to go.

Timing belt bearings

Can anyone help me out with bearing numbers (SKF etc) for the tensioner bearing and the 2 idler bearings on a 164 24v timing belt. I just got a price of $412  for the 3 from an Alfa spares place and had the reaction "F'ken WHAT !!" Maybe someone has found a bearing off a ford or som...
