1983 BTCC heads and Cams

Hi all. I have recently acquired a completely rebuilt 2.5 with original excellent condition BTCC billet cams and williams F1 flowed and ported cylinder heads. The engine has very very low miles on it. new liners, pistons, oil pump, valves etc. Its running on standard non ported runners and headers h...

Re: 75 or 164 Motronic crank pulley?

Well Z thats my thoughts too. I think a whole lot of folklore has built up around balance issues with crank pulley swaps, just like the same stupid stories with propshafts, which I have never had an issue with, with no marking up or keeping bolts in the same locations. I just don't believe that a ma...

Re: 75 or 164 Motronic crank pulley?

Hi duk thanks for the link, scotts solution ought to bring a pulley within tolerance. that's a nice solution actually. I dont specifically want to go to a 60 -2, but need a new pulley to drive the power steering, and pulleys are not exactly growing on trees here. this one was available brand new for...

Re: 75 or 164 Motronic crank pulley?

I have spoken to 3 different alfa specialists this week here in the uk about getting the motor balanced for the 3.0 crank pulley. They build 75's and gtv6's, including 2.5 power steering conversions. All have said I am making an issue over nothing? AMZ and Jupe told me they have done countless conve...

75 or 164 Motronic crank pulley?

Hi all. In the process of replacing front pulley on 2.5, for power steering. I came a cross a brand new 3 V belt pulley, with crank sensor notches too at the rear of the wheel. ie, no timing marks. The part number comes back as 75/164 3.0 Motronic crank wheel. Does any one know if this later pulley ...

Re: Alex Jupe's short shift mechanism

Sorry for the late reply. hopefully by now the other threads gave you a better idea. Some points. By altering the vertical position of the ball, hence changing the pivot ratio is the simplest mod, and personally I think Alfa simply got the math wrong at the factory. changing this makes a big differe...

Re: Alex Jupe's short shift mechanism

reduces throw by about 30%, but doesn't address gate slop at all. easily achieved by yourself on standard equipment. push ball up the shift mechanism, replace pivot bush with bronze and a little re shaping of longitudinal rod to clear chassis. IMO this type of mod, beats ISO hands down. by the time ...

Re: JK's v6 book

your kidding right? your complaining about 250bhp as standard?! why would you want 400hp on a gtv road car? that's pointless

Re: JK's v6 book

good read so far! juts a couple of questions for you Jim. Your cross section head diagram for 3.0 porting. Are those internal dimensions more or less the same for the 2.5 ?? Interesting to read the little passage about decreasing port sizes to increase velocity, like they do on the 4 stroke bikes. W...

Re: POWAAA STEERING!

thanks for the info greg. as I say the alfa garage say they have never had any issues, but Im thinking perhaps I should be cautious actually. for the sake of not a lot of money to do what evo2 recommends, I think ill get that done. Is that a safe method to use? yes mine being an 83, doesn't have the...

Re: POWAAA STEERING!

I spoke to a 75/gtv6 specialist in the UK first, who advised me that they have done loads of gtv6 power steering conversions using the 3 litre crank pulley, and have never had any issues. apparently the very late 85 GTV6's that came with power steering option, used the the 3 litre pulley anyway.
