Re: South Africa - 1982 GTV6 2.5 Restoration (50/100)
RESPRAY After Rapid motors has effected the metal repair work, they started on the spraying. I had left my rotisserie with them - this assisted a lot in moving the car around and minimizing handling damage. They initially did a primer whilst they were still doing final repairs. Then Sikaflex all th...

Re: turn signal arrow light in dash
15 years after the last post on this thread and just had the exact same issue. All exterior indicator lights working fine, but light on speedo cluster not. Removed the cluster and tested globe and wiring all seemed fine, but the voltage was too low. It was again a loose indicator relay. My relay onl...

Hi All, I am in the final days of my GTV6 restoration, before taking the car back to Oom Dawie to get driveshaft properly fitted and new exhaust made up. Have connected a battery up to the car for the 1st time in 4 years and busy testing ALL circuits. I re-crimped many terminals on the wiring harnes...

Re: South Africa - 1982 GTV6 2.5 Restoration (50/100)
OFF TO THE PANEL BEATERS Chosing a panel beater to do the work was not easy. It became apparent very soon that most do not actually like to do project work as the quick insurance jobs are much more lucrative. I eventually settled on RAPID MOTORS in Selby, Johannesburg. They apparently did a lot of ...

Re: South Africa - 1982 GTV6 2.5 Restoration (50/100)
Final cleanup of the Chassis Once all the paintwork and grime was removed, I cleaned the whole chassis down with a product called Evaporust - it works excellently and is a water-based product (no acid). This removed the flash rust that was in places and also provided an easy to remove protective &qu...

Re: South Africa - 1982 GTV6 2.5 Restoration (50/100)
Stripping process continues
The process had to be repeated many times and the biggest frustration was the glass beads needed to dry before I could use them again for the next cycle - so this took many weeks.

Re: South Africa - 1982 GTV6 2.5 Restoration (50/100)
STRIPPING OF CHASSIS I elected to strip the chassis at home, to make sure that a thorough job was done and all issues on the car identified. I researched different options and finally elected to give Hydroblasting a try. This is using high pressure water with glass beads. I was advised not to try d...

Re: South Africa - 1982 GTV6 2.5 Restoration (50/100)
Thanks Kevin :). It is fun but VERY time consuming! On the suspension, I have done both options! Will share in time. Front suspension has been done 2k gloss black and rear was powdercoated gloss black. Early indications are that the powder coating is better, but hey, a nice trial to see which looks ...
