Re: cambelt failure...

What I mean was that the belt looses tension, it start to skip a few teeth, the valves the touch the pistons. Then the cam shafts stop turning because there isn't enough traction with the belt, or it is jamming because of bent valves , but the crankshaft still drives the belt, pulling it over the st...

Re: cambelt failure...

Hi, Did you damage the valves in your engine, or did you have non stock pistons (with the engine being SC)? From what I have heard, the mechanical tensioner as fitted to the "newer" 12v engines is not that reliable. The tensioner probaly failed and the the belt got damaged because it skipp...

Try this page for the BMW sizes.
http://www.metricmechanic.com/pdf/Differentials.pdf. There are dimensions for the plates on p7, plus it is an interesting read.

Re: wheel offset for larger wheels

What size tyres do you plan to use? I've got 235/40/17 tyres with 17x8", 33mm offset wheels on my Gtv6. It does rub front and rear, but not much, Had to mod the front spoiler. Also managed to destroy one rear tyre before fitting spherical bearings in the suspension (SZ style dedion bush, watts ...

Re: No fuel!

Hi, Check that the fuelpump activates when you move the flap in the airflow meter by hand (with the ignition switched on). I assume that you have a fuel injected 2.5/3.0 with the old Bosch system. The coldstart injector on the plenum should also activate when you crank the motor if I remember correc...

Video - V6 Engine assembly

Hi, Found this on Youtube: How to take an Alfa V6 engine apart, and put it back together again. Looks so easy. And you can see how to use al the special tools. The engine might be from an Alfa 6 Sedan (big sump and studs for the carbs). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYb0BeIKErc http://www.youtube.c...

Re: Late 115 LSD into a 116 V6 Transaxle...

Hi,
If the 115 is the same as the 105 series, then it won't work. The internals are apparently interchangeable. The casing is not. The ringgear spigot size and bolt pcd are different, and the distance between the bearings is smaller than the 116 diff.

Re: No longer a ''budget" race GTV

Kevin, We DO get Sikaflex in South Africa. Try http://www.sika.co.za for contacts. Maizey Plastics also sells the stuff. http://www.maizey.co.za/content/view/17/156/ . They have a branch in Edenvale somewhere. I have used it a lot to secure aluminium labels to machined enclosures. (we now use an ace...

Hi, I had a similar problem with my '82 GTV6 when I rebuild the engine. It had fuel and spark, but wouldn't start. The problem was that the FI ecu didn't get a signal to fire the injectors. It get this signal from the coil. This signal also goes to the rev counter. I connected it to the wrong termin...

Hi, I recall seeing a gtv6 fitted with a small block Chev motor about 10+ years ago in Pretoria, South Africa. I think it still had the Alfa driveline, suspension and brakes. The owner used to work at BMW. At that time the E36 BMW M3 just came out and this would destroy them around the Gerotek highsp...
