2.5L V6 increasing the CR

Hi, Any thoughts on a "safe" amount of material that can be removed from the cyl heads on the 2.5L engine in order to increase the CR ? According to my calculations removing 1.0mm will increase the CR from the standard 9.0:1 to 9.53. Removing 1.4mm brings the CR to 9.77. Removing 1.8mm get...

Removing the Upper Control Arm 1986 GTV6

Hi, Any suggestions on how to remove a UCA retaining bolt that is seriously rusted onto the inner part of the bushing? I have sprayed in tons of WD40 and have been tapping the bolt with no success. There is no room for an angle grinder to cut the bolt and I do not look forward to sitting there with ...

Re: Idle Irregularities

Hi Romeo, WOW, You have been busy changing hardware. If you have'nt already done so You and Mel could try the following 1. With the cold start injector disconnected start the engine cold and allow it to warm up at idle. If the problem of falling engine speed and rough running is now worse, then the ...

Swapped to a 3.0L but miss the 2.5L music

Hi All,
I finally got round to dropping a 3.0L from a 75 into MY GTV6. I love the extra torque but miss the 2.5L sound. I am running the standard 2.5L exhaust at the moment. Anyone got any thoughts on how to go about modifying the exhaust system to get back som 2.5L music??

Thanks,
Brian.

Re: source for crank trigger wheel?

Hi,
Try http://trigger-wheels.com/store/ in the UK. They have a 36-1 wheel with an internal diameter of 114mm, which will fit the 115mm GTV6 crank pulley diameter with a small amount of machining.

Storing a 30L V6 engine

Hi again, Got the 3.0L V6 engine rebuilt over the winter but unfortunately I ran out of time to replace it with the original in my GTV6 as I am now off to the USA for a three year job contract. Anyone got any do's and don'ts regarding storing the engine for three years? I intend to put in synthetic ...

3.0L V6 garket engine block to oil sump

Hi, Got the winter project completed: rebuild a 3.0L V6 from a 75. I had a problem with the block to oil sump gasket in that the new one I purchased is different from the original. My local Alfa garage gave me another one to try and that is different again from the other two. Does anyone know or can...

And now for something different- Alfa Harley

Hi, Got these pics from an Alfa friend. Unfortunately, we have no details about the project. Looks like the oil sump has been shortened to save space and there is some form of external lubrication. Wonder how often he has burnt his legs on the exhaust ?? I just love those intake trumpets going "...

Agree..Silicon only. I used to work for Loctite many moons ago as a test engineer and if you have any significant surface area then you appreciate how strong it is. So for example if you need to remove the liners after you apply the loctite you may have problems.

Mechanical Vs. Hydraulic Tensioners ( Again !!!)

Hi, Currently rebuilding a 3.0L from a 75 to put into my GTV6 and am at the same Mechanical Vs. Hydraulic tensioner question. I have read the threads on this subject and without trying to flog this one to death I have a few questions: An experienced Alfa mechanic has told me that he has simply plugg...

3.0L Exhaust Manifolds

Hi there, First of all: Murray, X-Rad, Dennis, Barry and MD; Thank you all for the advise on removing the front pulley nut. I got it off using some implements you would'nt find in a Swiss Watch Makers toolbox: 41 mm socket, extension bar and onto that an old hollow go kart rear axle. I had the flywh...
