Hey Joey
Did you get a m/c yet ?
What's the concensus - BMW, Benz, VW, Porsche or Nissan Patrol.
I still want to replace my stock 22mm with a 25mm cause I've got too much pedal travel (4 spotters up front).

Finally have a home internet connection - slow but it's a start. I'm still looking for a weld procedure for tool L6 which has the composition - Cr - 1.2% Mn - 1.3% Fe - 96.5% Mo - 0.05% C - ??% (The machine couldn't read carbon content) Any help on this, or anyone who has welded uprights and can tel...

Sounds like what I am aiming to do - 2 uprights to create 1 but the welding procedure is critical, especially with alloy steels. Do it wrong and you end up with hydrogen embrittlement (bad things happen :( ), cracking etc. Z - Why do you want 15" wheels over the 16's. Is it for tyres? I need my...

I've also had this one happen but with less bolt sticking out. I centre punched the bolt, drilled down the centre of it with a fine bit, redrilled with a 5.2mm bit (the correct size for M6x1 tapping) and then cleaned it out using a spiral fluted tap. Original threads in perfect condition. It took a ...

I am lengthening mine - cut and shut 2 to make 1 longer one (per side).
Barry shortened his but then turned the ball joint upside down.
I am interested in the welding he did for this mod.

Glenn

The only thing this machine couldn't tell was the carbon content ie- a piece of 4140 would read as 41XX.
Tool L7 was the nearest match it could find but it did give a complete analysis. I don't have the details with me at the moment, I will post them up later on.

Thanks for your help

Welded Uprights

Back in the GTV6.ORG days Barry posted some pics of a front upright (stub axle) that had been cut and shortened for an "upsidedown ball joint" mod. Was there anything special to welding this - pre & post weld heat treatment ? I have put an upright on a nuclear analyser and come up with...
