Re: BATTERY KEEPS DRAINING. HELP!

Greg, 2.6 mA shouldn’t bother a battery, especially a new one. Should last for weeks. Purely by coincidence, I measured the drain on my car 2 days ago at 8 and a bit mA and that doesn’t cause any problems. I would imagine it's just the memory of the cd/radio pulling that in my car. I think they orig...

Re: Plenum Pop - What are the chances?

Thanks Guys, All makes sense. I realise now that if I’ve not started after 2 or 3 attempts, I probably should unplug the cold start injector. I've put a LED on the CSI to see when it's firing (to help diagnose this problem). So I know that it does eventually stop firing if you keep trying to start e...

Plenum Pop - What are the chances?

I haven't had one, if you were hoping for an exciting story, but have been tempting the gods. I have had an occasional starting problem with my '83 GTV6. If I stall the car after starting when cold, I struggle to get it to fire again. It will turn over, but no ignition. Checked for spark, fuel pump ...

Re: Brass and aluminium

I'd say Brett is more worried about the electrolysis when installing brass tubes into his aluminium heads. From a lot of time with yacht masts, Aluminium and Steel is bad. Chromate paste fixes that, but that doesn't have a temperature issue. I understand that brass is factory original on some ALFA e...

Re: Windshield wipers on GTV6

Just for the record, It bucketed down here on Saturday, so on Sunday I pulled the wiper motor gearbox apart, cleaned out all the old grease and re-greased. I tried to do the wiper arm pivots/bushes as well, but I couldn't get the little circlip type thingies off, so I just kept squirting in WD40. Th...

1983 GTV6 Funny idle

My '83 GTV6 when fully warmed up has an odd idle and wonder if anyone has any ideas? The revs slowly build up by 300 to 500 rpm over about 5 seconds, then suddenly drop back to 900rpm. Then does it again in the same 5 second rhythm continuously. Embarrassing sitting at the traffic lights. Idles roug...

Re: burnt ECU???

Mats should be right, one diode on the power supply would protect against that. Bosch hopefully would have done it as there is a high probability of a reversed battery happening in any car. But, life's not like that. Just a point to be careful about - the positive battery cable in my car has a green...

Oh and the taste?

Go to an Australian Pub and order a "Coat of Arms" for dinner.

Re: replacement headlights

Bent the Left hand front guard. Luckily wasn't touching the tyre. We were in the Flinders Ranges (call it desert) about 150 km from the nearest habitation. The Emu was looking pretty groggy, struggling to get up. His mates were all hanging around him. I swear the were sending us evil looks. Decided ...

Re: replacement headlights

MD, Do you know if the Cibies have the same mount as the Carellos, or do I still need to cut up the old ones? I did hear a passing comment at Benincas about the Cibies being the ones to use, but didn't follow it up. Armadillos? I laughed, but then thought Kangaroos probably seem weird. I have seen a...

My mistake.

The tube on the throttle body is blocked.

There has never been a vacuum advance device on the distributor.

Thanks for the reply though.

Rich,

Did you resolve this?

I 've just got an April '83 GTV6 and I've just discovered that the tube going from the front top of the throttle body to the distributor is missing, I think it's the advance.

Or anyone else with an idea?

Thanks,

Peter, Owners manual says to pull off the silver trim first, it's silver plated plastic and not real strong. Then you just pull the clear plastic bit out of the pillar. But be very careful, the plastic is old & brittle. On my car one side came out easily, the other side took about half an hour o...
