Hi Greg. The car in question uses an after market computer, Autronic from memory, so no factory knock sensing. I can't comment with any authority about the engines ignition mapping, but the car has been running for years, getting the crap caned out of it and it's still going strong with no reported ...

Just as an example, there is a guy on a Toyota forum (Toymods) I'm a member of that pumps 20psi into a standard, 10:1 compression ratio, Toyota 1UZFE 4ltr quad cam V8. It pumps out nearly 400KW at the wheels running 98 octane pump fuel, water injection, a big intercooler and 2 turbo's that aren't ov...

Re: exhaust flames - how and why???
A mystery to me is why some racing cars have flames licking from the exhaust on the overrun. :? I don't mean turbos, but NA racing engines. And I'm not talking about the short sharp spits of flame (my 105 used to do that), but long slow big licks of flame - think V8 SuperTaxis and you'll know what ...

After delays due to bad weather and the need to go work at my real job, I finally got to the dyno shop today. Results were decent, although not quite as high as I had hoped. The engine put out 231rwhp at about 6500 rpm. I will put the dyno sheet up tomorrow. I feel this is a respectable number for ...

Nice work Baz. But it is strange to read an engine builder who endorces running an engine extra rich for extended lengths of time. Aren't you concerned with washing the oil off the bores causing increased wear? Also, the extra carbon deposits in the combustion chamber causing hot spots and pre-ignit...

How about enclosing the standard intercooler in aluminium and pumping water though the fins, turning it into a water to air intercooler? It's been done befor with other air to air intercoolers and it keeps the plumbing nice and short. Water to air intercoolers can work real well (tho I don't persona...

About air to air intercoolers. Is it wise to put electrical fans on them to cool the air while standing still or driving at low (city) speeds. Typically not required unless the intercooler is getting heat soaked from other hot components. WRX's suffer from this with their top mount intercoolers. I ...
