Hello Grega,
Depending on how old are your rear shocks as well as how
they have been installed on your car, you have two different
ways to get those famous nuts.

Option A)
Your shocks are not too old and were installed correctly.
In this case, you can reach these nuts by removing the
vertical part of the rear sit. To do so, remove the screws
at the bottom of it (one on each side) and pull it up.
After what you'll be able to access the nuts through the
holes specificaly made in the isolation.
You'll then see two nuts and therefore two spanners will be
all the required tools in order to do the job.

But, most of the time, when time has come to change the rear
shocks we unfortunately discover that the nuts are fully bloked
in place cause they were uncorrectly mounted due to tiny fine
thread. This may drive you strait to the second way.

Option B)
You've got to create some free room in the trunk by moving
backwards the fuel tank cause the holes inside the car are not
big enough to let you reach the nuts with all the necessary tools.
In fact, you will have to stop the shock turning around while
removing the two nuts, but of course the rod you can grip on is
always too short to do it easely.

Does anybody knows why the always put this stupid tiny small
thread on shocks ?

Anyway Grega, go for Option A) first and tell me what happen.
I would be very please to read that you got them easely.

Regards.

Billy,

Thanks for the reply,

did you mean removing the vertical part on the rear seat? I'm going to give it a try sometime this week. I'll let you know how it goes.

Sorry, yes, you're right.
It is effectively the vertical part of the rear seat.
Keep me informed of your work progression.

By the way, don't you speak french ?

Greg,

OK, well understood. I'm therefore affraid that you'll have to correct
some of my words in our future exchanges. I personaly use to live in
SF (where I learned English) but that was 20 years ago.
Anyway, nothing seems impossible at the time you speak English and
share the "GTV6" passion. Am I wrong ?

Hexen,

Tanslation for the other ones :

Thanks a lot for the French website address.
Seriously looking to register to it soon.
Are you registered to it already ?
Whatever, the present website is for me "THE" reference as
during the 5 years spent in the restore of my GTV6, it was the
source of many very useful information. Perhaps, I wouldn't have
reached the goal without it. Thanks to all of you guys !

ok,
So I've installed the Bilstein shocks i've had lying around. The front were easy......but the back were a pain in the ass. I had to remove the rear seats...and also remove the rear insulation that sits behind the seat back. Then i had access to the nuts for the top of the shocks. I had to also grind a 19mm wrench in order to be able to undo the double nuts. It took about 5hrs total. The bilstein shocks give the car a much stiffer ride, and it seems to handle much better especially when i push it in corners.

thanks for all the help guys!
