17" Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 going on my car. Thinking of getting tires in one of these sizes:

215/40/17
205/45/17 (sidewall is kinda short)
215/45/17 (run the risk of rubbing)

Although I have run 225/50/16s before. Anyone run 17" wheels with 215/45/17 tires?

If you used 225/50R16 and they fit, why wouldn't 215/45R17 which are smaller in width and diameter

To know wether your new tires will rub or not, you need to know the width and ET on both your new and old rims.

Even though your old wheels with 225/50-16 worked, your new wheels could rub with 155/45-17 if the ET/offset is wrong

I have also found that lower profile tires often have more square profiled shoulders and hence are more prone to rub.

yeah I laid out all the sizes on the spreadsheet, but I just had to ask. Also the other issue is when the stated size is say...205, not all 205s are of the same width (might vary a little depending on brand and profile), and as Mats said about lower profiles having squarer shoulders. But from my calculation, 215/45/17 just a wee lower than the limit.

what kind of tires are you looking at z? i have two sets of 205/45/17. the pirelli p7000's are much more rounded than then the same size kuhmo v700's. I know that 215 p7000's fit in the front of my car, but i do not have an exact ride height for you. on my last set of pirelli's i ran 205 in the front and 215 in the back no probs.

As Dan already said the most critical for clearance is ET. This makes a huge difference in the tire size you can squeeze in.

In the rear you can fit 225/45R17 or even bigger without any problems.

dunno if it helps you but i am running 235-40-17 on a 9 inch rim on the rear of my gtv with no real troubles at all. rim ET is 37, and i run a 5mm spacer. at the front is a bit more difficult i still run the 235-40-17 but now on a 8 inch rim but with a 12.5mm spacer and the same rim ET of 37. bit of a task but it worked for me and im running R rated tyres also which seem have squarer sidewalls too. both lips of the guards had to be rolled and at the front a bit of hammer bashing was also needed to clear areas under full lock. dunno if it helps but thats me.

2 quick snaps from about a month ago. the car is actually a bit lower now and still not many problems with rubbing. front was a bit of a ball breaker to sort out but they all fit fine now. hope it helps z man.

They fit easy ib the rear on rub in the front. Without the TS plastics they'd fit much better.

Cool Micke! I'm gonna go with 215/45/17 since

1) Bumper shimmed forward
2) No plastic wheel guards
3) Size still has good sidewall height. Roads here aren't great so the more sidewall the better.

Have you got your tyres on yet? I'm contemplating some 17s and want to know how your choice went.
