"floating" feeling

Post by x-rad »

So I am out cruising on a nice smooth road doing about 70-80 and the car gets a weird floating sensation. As if the front and rear wheels were doing their own thing...It gets worse when I step on the gas..

Alignment ok..All struts OK..torsion bars OK..tires OK

Main Dedion bushing?

Watts link and/or caster bushings would be my first check points.

If the watts linkage bushing on the dedion is really bad, the car becomes almost undrivable. Double check if the bushing fell out. That was what happened to mine when I installed the poly bushing. Somehow the bolt and nut loosened and fell out.

Good thing the rear tires are so close to the wheel well then. :)

Ooops.... only the nut fell out... it's not easy for that bolt to fall out.

Check steering bush. Could be on its way out. Get someone to hold the front wheels in position(Conan) while some else turns the the steering wheel gently from side to side . Use torch and see what movement there is. Always generally good idea to check this bush as part of maintenance.
Do you run toe in , out or straight ?

set up straight.

I am pretty sure it's in the rear like you guys say...really noticeable when hard accelerating and over 70mph.

Thanks! Will check....someday

Ordered set of all new bushes(main watts, watts links, torsion, and dedion)..most poly, except for dedion main...got original type (which I will fill with poly for much cheaper than poly version)

replaced all bushings this weekend, no more float.....used a big C-clamp and a socket to push out old bushings.

although I think the IAP torsion rod bolts are a little skinny

Would have to agree on that! I'd use my old ones except that the threads are wasted.
