STEERING WHEELS

Post by mjr »

HI all.

I have decided its time to change my worn out wooden alfa steering wheel, its too big anyway. I have been looking at OMP hub kit and leather wheel. Any recommendations for good wheels? what diameter do people have the best experience with?

thanks

This is of course 105% up to personal preferences. There are lots of good brands. My points:
- suede
- deep dish (~95 mm)
- diameter ~350

Greg had a comment somewhere on here about a wheel and adapter from Vick auto in texas. It was kind of pricy but got rid of the plastic turn signal canceller. If i remember right the whell and adapter may not be in the catalog but you need to call for info.

Is suede suitable for everyday use?

I had a suede wheel for a while, nice grip, but after not too long the suede smoothed out at the most used areas, maybe from my greasy Italian hands??

I have a MOMO Monte Carlo in my GTV6 (350mm). It's great, especially with the RSR adapter.

Just for the record, the comment I made was on the SuperRedVerde page and the wheel was only $85. It's the hub adapter that drives up the price.

I have the Momo Montecarlo too and have been very happy with it, it really suits the GTV6 and looks appropriate to a 1980s GT see the similar design in the 288GTO for example. Its great to hold and makes it much easier to find space for my legs! I used to use a Momo Gritti wooden wheel, it was very pretty but impractical in hot weather. Everyone used to think I was a poseur with my (essential) driving gloves!

I cannot bring myself to change the steering wheel in mine, the size is perfect for me.

I changed my wheel when i had the alfetta and i regretted it.

The wheel in my gtv6 just feels perfect.

I cant even bring myself to change the gearknob lol.

Going to fabricate myself a lovely little alloy foot rest with big gaping holes though

If i could get exact diameter wheel in aftermarket, i would probably consider it...

Are you short Garth?
My knees always got in the way with the stock wheel but I'm 6'4".
Also, I couldn't stand getting all sweaty and the wheel sliding around.

I have a similar Momo from the 80's in my car. I like the feel and I think it suits the car very well. I like the idea of the spacer as I am 6'4" and with the seat back the reach is quite long even for me.

Got a pic? I'd love to sit lower and be able to bring the wheel closer with outstretched legs. But we are talking about Alfas here.
