Where's this 27mm nut go?????

Post by brookstroutr »

I'm at a lose here. I just did a complete brake, suspension and gearbox out and rebuild. I bagged & tagged everything, but a couple were mismarked and unknown. I have this BF 27mm nylon locknut and washer left over and for the life of me cannot figure where this goes. I think it's from the front suspension somewhere. Any ideas????

So the head measures 27mm? These suggestions might not be big enough but:

What about front lower inner pivots on the engine bay side?

Or maybe watts linkage centre pivot nut? (kinda hard to miss though :D )

The nut measures for a 27mm wrench or socket and appears to be a M18 x 1.50 pitch. The nut on the center pivot for the rear watts linkage is different so you can bend the lip into a notch to lock it down. The front lower A-arm nuts on the engine bay side are 19mm. All these are installed as well as the upper arm.

The center DeDion bolt is in as the carrier is threaded. Does this nut purhaps go on the top of the carrier for the center bolt to lock it in? It appears there is insufficient room.

One problem is I torn down the car last November and 'flash to bang time' ain't what it used to be....... It's the only one nut/washer left.

Try the rear mount of the gearbox.

Nope, not the rear transaxle mount. It's in place and is a 19mm bolt & nylon locknut (with new bushing as well).

Here's the makeover list:
1. Rebuilt brake calipers.
2. SS brake lines.
3. New Ferodo pads.
4. Fr/Rr drilled/slotted rotors.
5. Every Fr/Rr bushing replaced, many poly.
6. Larger Fr/Rr swaybars with poly bushings including their respective links.
7. CVs re-done w/new boots.
8. Steering rack cleaned, repacked and new boots & bushings.
9. Transaxle upgraded to an iso '85 w/new seals. Already had a good single clutch and the twin disc is re-done for future.
10. All Front ball joints replaced all with poly boots in lieu of the rubber.
11. Koni Sport dampers w/poly bushings.
12. Shifter cleaned, greased and new boots top & bottom.
13. Front wheel hubs got bearings, seals and repacked.
14. Not done - the rear wheel bearings.
15. All parts cleaned and painted with Semi-black Rustoleum paint.
16. Guibos are fine and new ones are on the shelf for now.

Somewhere, this NUT goes in there. It is in good, almost new condition. It doesn't even have wrench marks, but does show signs of being installed on the bottom mating surface.

This is like trying to find the corner in a round room.

Scott,

This NUT doesn't apply to the locations you mentioned, but I double checked anyway.

x-rad,

I remember seeing it somewhere during the course of the tear down. I put the parts in divider containers and label; e.g. front brakes, rear brakes, watts linkage, exhaust, etc. In the past I have restored cars, however in sections as opposed to a full attack. Any loose items are therefore isolated and easier to resolve. I actually took 1 1/2 weeks off of work to get the car back together all at once.

This NUT, IIRC, was found about mid-ship under the car. I'm obviously concerned as a NUT this big is a serious piece of hardware. The car is now operational and is solid as a rock with all the new parts. I just want it to stay that way after all this time and expense.
