Steering rack boot???

Hi Everybody,
I can't figure out how to remove the old steering rack boot on the passenger side of my '85 GTV6. There appears to be a large lock tab holding a metal flange in place where the inner ball joint is. I don't have an extra lock tab and don't want to start hammering away at things if this is not the correct method of getting at the boot. Any ideas? Thanks.
