GTV6 Steering rack rebuild

Post by xrad »

Hi all,
Need some help. My old rack is being replaced with a better unit (both stock ZF)

However, I have to replace the bellows/boots. One end is easy. The other end with the shock mount??? do I have to remove the outer tie rod to remove the shock mount??...seems so.

any suggestions..

The shock mount is also where the boot goes on that end....there is a collar for it that you will see once you pull the tie rod end off.

MAKE SURE YOU DON'T TURN THE RACK WHEN LOOSENING OR TIGHTENING THE TIE ROD END. You can break the pinion adjuster that way. I found out the hard way on that.

If you weren't already planning on it ...discard the shock on the steering rack. It amounts to excess weight.

hth,
