Few questions for spring rate (without torsion bars)

Post by killaz »

Please advise me on this topic>>

Car will be used for occasional track days and it should be driven to track.

Can anybody recommend me spring rate and length for front coil over conversion but without torsion bars? I would like to take them out. Feel should be similar to RSR kit (600lb/in) + torsion bars.

Suggestion is a 165 kg /cm spring that is 150mm long and 20 kg helper. I run 200kg which is same as 33.6 mm torsion bar .
You will have to open up your upper control arm . I can send you full specs of my bilsteins

Please do send! :D

I suppose that helper spring is 4' long and ID of springs 2,25'? I've already opened upper control arm and tried some weaker springs (60kg/cm) with torsion bars, but it doesn't feels good enough..

What about reinforcement of chassis?

Thank you very much!

Killaz you welcome to post those pics on forum if anyone wants . I unfortunately have my shock dyno graphs mixed up with my old ones . I will contact the guys at bilsteins if he remembers what it was which I'm sure he does . ( sorry Scott)

Hi Kevin. If you've got the graphs that's great, if you don't, no big deal.

Cheers, Scott

C/P from Kevins mail:

52mm diameter
Image

Shock body 215mm long
Image

Hat to centre of pin is 60mm . I would change to 50mm . Means you can get car lower without touching steering arm
Image

Travel to bumpstop is 85mm . Bump stop is 15mm
Image

Total shock length is 380mm BUT would reduce botton hat clearance by 10 mm
Image

Helper is 80 diam 60 long and 20kg (I suppose that diam is 60 and 80 is height)

RS Bracket

Maybe a dumb question... Is it safe to make thread on regular B46 Bilsteins and convert them into coilovers?

Edit: Definitely no, there's no enough thick wall for thread. :)
