Electric Power Steering on 75 Rack

Why !! I asked myself this question a few times after completion. There are at least two other alternatives that I think are better which I will mention later. I have used the Citroen C4 pump which I have fitted in the boot connected with two long hydraulic lines to a 75 power steering rack. This GTV already has the gearbox upfront mated to a 3.7 24v motor so I wanted to avoid any additional weight upfront. This is I did but added 10kg to the rear which was pump, fluid and hydraulic lines.
I should have just used the original 75 hydraulic pump and ran it off the alternator. Note I could not have used my front pulley.
The other option is the Toyota Prius pump and ECU which i would modify and join to steering column.
Anyway moving along and all this due to damaged left arm.
First adaption in process was to joint the smaller GTV column to the thicker 75 column at the base of rack between the two universal joints. Careful consideration was given when splicing and joining the two shafts with v joins and collars.

I had to upgrade my alternator which you can see in this link. The original 55A was not going to cut it hence the easy fitting Amarth 500 120A alternator did the trick.

Kevin,
If you consistently do high revs, it may be wise to increase the size of your alternator pulley to slow it down so it doesn't thrash itself to pieces. It will still make all the power just the same unless you do the opposite and idle it everywhere... :D

Hi MD, I’m not to worried about this alternator and high rpm. Times have changed with alternators so pretty confident Abarth got it right when they selected this alternator. I did have issues on the old Alfa alternator with high rpm racing especially cracking to the case ! Let’s see how this goes.
