Wheels

Post by jrreeve »

Well, the GTV-6 is finally on the road. And after i've gotten a couple kinks worked out the next big purchase will be wheels and tires. I'm thinking about going with some 16's but a set of 17's has not been ruled out. I'm looking to keep the wheels under 19lbs-20lbs, depending on the size of the wheel. Kosei puts out some lightwieght packages, as well as OZ (especially the SuperLeggera), I've already looked at the Ronal's but they are still a bit heavy!

I'm still on somewhat of a budget. What do you guys have on your car? Suggestions? Since the wheel is such an odd offset and bolt pattern, it looks like i'm going to get blanks and have them cut. I'd prefer not to have to use spacers, but we'll see what i'm stuck with.

Oh, here are a couple links from the old board that should be of some help sometime.

I would suggest looking into Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 and Pro Race 2. I have a set of Pro Race 1 (17x7) on my 164Q. They weigh only 17 lbs/wheel (actually put them on a scale) and are less than $200/wheel (think I paid $160/wheel). I have ordered another set of Pro Race 1 for my milano 24 valve track car. I picked the wheel due to its advantageous weight-price combination.

Where to buy Team Dynamics?

Post by bmacf »

Where can you get Team Dynamics wheels with the 4x98 bolt pattern? When I looked at the Ferrari of Seattle site, they no longer carry the wheel I want.

Thanks,

Eh, you mean 5x98? In many cases it may not be listed, I suppose - I would suggest calling them. I got mine from Anthony (www.alfastuff.com) - please let him know I sent you. My second set I ordered from the local Alfa place. You should be able to get any TD wheel, but you may have to wait 8 weeks (or so) for it to arrive from UK by boat.

Looks good - 17"?. How much do they weigh? And, approximate cost?

As far as I know the Compomotive MO wheels are VERY heavy...
Something like double the weight of OZ Superleggeras. there are rumours about a race variant though.

I have MOMO Star look-a-likes on mine, 17". Looks great to me. The only problem with 17" is that they are a bit too big. Rubs against in the front when I turn. I had to massage it a bit with a hammer. :) (GENTLY OFFCOURSE!)

Bill,

Andy at Performatek carries them in 15x7. He can get about any size you want though. What are you looking for? I'm probably selling my 17x7.5 Team Dynamics DTM (5x98) wheels pretty soon. I did a conversion to 5x100 for my car.

The team dynamics...did you need spacers for them? Or were they straight bolt on?

And how much were the Momo's and what is the wheel weight?

They should bolt on just fine. The weight for 15 X 7 is about 13.2 lbs. Pretty good IMHO.

Have may others done a conversion to 5x100?
The local mag shop said that with other alfas they just put the 5x100 wheels (Subaru) on the 5x98 stud pattern using tapered nuts and it would just centre its self, and bend the studs slightly.
sounds very unsafe to me?

Whats your thoughts?

If you're going to use 4/100 on a 4/98 hub you need a nut with a floating washer. Basically it's like a regular nut but the conical part is loose and can move around a bit to adjust to the slightly off centre stud.

FYI, OZ doesn't make 4/98 and 5/98 rims any more, thay list them but they are 4/100 and 5/100 rims that you need to use these "floating" nuts on.
God only knows where you can find a floating anti-theft nut... :?
