What type engine is does the above car have. I think it is a 3.0l 24V. Is this a 240hp stock? Is the the engine that one would want if they swap engines into the GTV6?
Also, what is a good price for a used one? Thanks for the input.

Very few 164s in the U.S. have 24 valve motors. I am fairly certain that one is a normal 12 valver.

If you look at the engine you will see 2 cams per head if its a 24v

I do not think I have ever seen an Alfa 3.0l 24V engine. Can anyone post a picture so I can tell on sight what I am looking at.

I am assuming one would want the 24v if they are going to undertake the swap so I just want to make sure I don't make an error on the picking out of the engine.

Ok, I looked at the 3.0L conversion and it looks quite involved but not impossible. I would like to have an engine just in case I go this route. If I read the thread correctly the engine that was installed was a 3.0l 12V and it looked similar to my 2.5l engine. So I was still hoping to know how to get a 3.0l 24V or a picture of one. What type of cars do these engines come from. Only in UK, HK. I would want to get one in USA if possible. Looks like Greg thinks that one that I maybe able to get is a 3.0l 12V. Are the valve covers different? If I get the serial number of the 91 164L can I referrence from here?

the # of 24v 164 qv that came to the US is very small; i want to say like <1000 (good luck finding them!).

24v is easy to pick because it has 2 cam wheels per head. I thought the 24v was first released in about 1993 / 1994 - only 12v until then.

No 164 24v officially came to Australia, so I imported the engine in along with the 164 12v for my Dad's GTV. It took a while to find a 24v but it worked out cheaper than buying a local 12v at the time.
I know a guy who has a '99 GTV V6 (24v) for sale. It only has about 10 000 km on it from what I can remember, complete with everything.
Last time I spoke to him, he wanted about $4-5k AUD but I'm not sure how you go sending one of these o/s or the cost of freight.
There must be loads of 164 24v engines around but probably only in europe - that may be a cheaper import option.

Thanks for the information. I will consider my options on this. For now, I guess I will just use my stock engine since I have it and it runs fine.

Hi Everyone,

Well I saved up my $ and I paid for my basic engine upgrade today. I hope to have it asap. I did not see it yet but Jungle justice hooked me up. He is helping me with the parts, etc and I hope to have pictures of it soon. I did not want to go to the trouble of looking in europe or HK and hassle with an over seas transaction. I forgot about this post and I wish I had more connections like others. I saw this engine on the Alfa BB after Jungle Justice approched me on a email. I guess he was lucky to get this engine from the 164 LS since according to this thread it pretty rare. However, it good to know that they are around.

Thanks again for the information on this thread since it helped me determine what a 24V looks like. Of course, from the pictures, it does say 24V on the plen. so I guess thats a no brainer too.
