Wide Band?
Hey who has installed a wide band O2 sensor for use with Megasquirt? What's the best sensor to buy, and what hardware is required? I assume that WB makes tuning a little more precise?
Thanks for the help,

Looks like the Innovate Motorsports LC-1 is the simplest and cheapest solution.

I second Mats' recomendation. $199 at www.diyautotune.com
It states comatability with Megasquirt on that site. I plan to buy one when I get my MS going (modified for L Jet Alfa).

Hey thanks for those suggestions. I checked out the Innovate Motorsports WB sensor (will check out the other one in a bit). So it looks like you use the analog output of the sensor as an input to MS. Then you just tune like you do for an NB sensor?
Thanks for the suggestions - nice to know there are proven choices.

no, you have to set in the settings.ini that you use a WB....for example the 0-5V output (NB has 0-1V)bmacf wrote:Then you just tune like you do for an NB sensor?

The controller controls and calibrates to the sensor. The output from the controller goes to the MS. MS recieves 0-5v when switched to UEGO mode. Then you can do target-AFR tuning. MS has nothing to do with the sensor or controller. It only gets the AFR voltage.
Depends on whether you're using the L1H1 or LSU4 sensor. I like the LSU4 (Bosch) because it's cheap even though the controllers are expensive. By all odds, you are going to replace the sensor more often than the controller. $50 from any Volkswagen dealer isn't bad.

Welcome back Peter!
Jose_76: A WBO2 is not just a passive sensor, it needs a regulator circuit to be accurate. MS cannot do this, VEMS can however.
There is a new WBO2/EGT instrument available in the VEMS webshop, looks like a good buy.

I am currently using the Innovate LC-1 unit on my 86 GTV6 2.5L running MS II V3.0.There is no doubt that if you want to be able to accurately tune your fuel table you need a WB.The downside is that it adds another level of complexity to an already difficult ( at least for me
) task.Follow the supplier's installation instructions 100% re grounding etc.if not you're going to be frustrated.Innovate provide excellent support on their website BTW I speak from experience.

I've an innovate LC-1 on mine, but can't currently get it to report correctly on the MS software, it currently flits between ludicrous end of scale readings but occasionally just reads bang on stoic for a couple of seconds !!!
Not sure why yet, but no doubt it's something I've done wrong. I just need to go through the install & config step by step once more
Anyway, gives me another excuse to be in the garage for a couple of hours.... ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

For god's sake don't tell him that Mats his map is what I'm usingEither that or you need to adjust your fuel map

Seriously though, Steve you've got to go through the LC-1 setup process with a fine-toothed comb both using the LC-1 programmer/calibration then in MS then in Megatune.Do not do anything different from the instructions re grounding or it will not read properly ie:grounds to engine block but seperate connection points for heater and signal or you'll get ground offsets (I almost sound like I know what I'm talking about
![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)
I also had a major problem with electrical system "noise" and had to install a filter on the LC-1 power supply.

lol yeah the map could be wrong!!! Except it was done on a dyno, using their WB - also an innovate unit - so I'm confident it's pretty much OK. I only put the thing on in readiness for future tweaks to save going back to the dyno shop each time.
Amusingly at one point my LC-1 reported an AFR of 2:1 which seems slightly rich to me
shortly afterwards it was a touch leaner, idling nice and smoothly at a reported 23:1 ! Didn't realise until then that my 3.0 might be a diesel! ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)
