Hey everyone, this topic came up a while ago, but I'm looking for a few more details. I've heard that the Volvo 850 tps (sensor, not switch) will fit our V6 throttle bodies. Does anybody have a specific part number? I bought what I thought was the Volvo 850 tps, but it turned out to be a switch and not a sensor (Bosch part # 0 280 122 001).

FYI, if you want to install the flat-shifting feature of Msn-E, you need a tp sensor, not switch. This is because it needs the tp information to turn on the rev-limiting feature for flat-shifting.

I have been looking into this topic myself. Michael posted that a tps from a porsche 944 turbo will work. I think it even fits.
I made a list of potential candidates based on the catalog at my local auto parts store. They are all bosch six pin units. I think that they must be sensors (not switches) if they need six pins, but what do I know. I also do not know which way that they rotate, but here goes...

An alternative is to get the TPS from a 95 Chevy Lumina (Wells part number TPS140), around 40 US$ new, or less from a junkyard. If you take apart the stock GTV6 throttle switch, you can use it as a mouning surface for the Lumina one. You wire the Chevy part to the Bosch connector, and it works great with no mods to the throttle body whatsoever.

Ugly, but very reliable. You can even RTV the original TPS cover back on over it, if you want, or just seal the whole thing up.

I bet you could get one of those at a junk yard for $5.
I am looking at going to a 75mm GM throttle body and I could most likely use one of those. I bet they have Luminas as far as the eye can see at Northern Wisconsin junk yards

Hey Zambon and Al, thanks for posting some options for throttle position sensors. I had been pulling my hair out for months trying to find an alternative.

Zambon, for those off-the-shelf Bosch TPS's, do they require machine the throttle shaft to be a little shorter? If not, I'll probably go with the generic Advance Auto TPS. Otherwise, before machining the shaft, I think I might try converting a spare TPS to one with the Chevy innards.

And I'm looking forward to combining enrichment via MAP and TPS.

Hi-
It was funny how I decided on a Lumina TPS. I was messing with dis-assembled rheostats, pots, etc., trying to figure out how to shoehorn one into the stock throttle switch housing, when I was suddenly posessed by an urge to see what kind of TPS was on my wife's Lumina (yes, we owned one of those pieces of crap once). SO . . . I went over, identified, and removed it from her car (no, I did not ask first), and discovered (to my shock), that it would fit within the confines of the Bosch TPS housing (mostly). After I carefully replaced it, I went to the autoparts store and got one of my own!!!
