Garth, its definitely a sad sickness that has continued through the family but its a lot of fun though. As a kid I grew up at Kyalami (track my dad designed in the 60's) watching Alfas race. It was a very exciting time in the early eighties to know that if your Dad or yourself owned an Alfa , you were the 'Kings' because the GTV 6's nearly won every race they entered into and this gave Alfa owners a huge amount of respect. The era before that was the same with the Bertone GTV's but I was to young to get involved.
This Forum has helped me a lot in getting the cars to where they are as they are so many good ideas shared which help these cars 'stay on the road'. I also think this forum has helped push up the value of GTV's which is good for those who own them and when Jim publishes book they will go up again. Just wish Alfa or some company like spiderpoint will start making parts for them again such as rear lights, front grilles, bodypanels etc.
Michael , will put up pic. send me to an existing topic or similiar.

Yes Kevin, you are right about the sickness part. I could never part with my gtv6, even if i had as many as you, i would love them all equally.

My god it is a sickness!!

The Kayalami Race track your dad designed would have been awesome to grow up around, and yes its amazing how Alfas run around a race track, kings indeed

Yes this Forum is fantastic, great to be back on it after a couple of years! :D

The part getting new bits made for our cars would be ideal. I'd want new headlights for starters....

A new project for a friend of mine(Konrad) to turn this origional GTV3.0l into a race car. The car is not in the best aesthetic conditional but mechanically very good. So basically we have three weeks to put cage in , race seats , harnesses,(all FIA gear), fix one carb, upgrade brakes ,suspension, etc. Motor will stay stock as it already is very strong. Hopefully Konrad will be able to take the car to the track next week to shake it down.

Nice pic of Franks TT gtv 3.0l next my carb GTV. This TT has just featured in one of out top mags here. On a damp drag strip at night with road tyres did 0-160km in 11 sec. Not to bad . Gearbox in back still.

Thanks, it was hard work last year but this year will be no real changes. Got to build a house so the budget will be zeroed. Just going to go out and race them this year. The 24v is in the race car and it sounds pretty good. Are you a member of AR club here? Two races coming up, one on 2 Feb and other on 9Feb at Midvaal. Look in race thread, you will see installation. Old 2.5 motor is for sale.

Kevin,

Fantastic cars. Well done. If ever you want to sell the stock carby 3.0 L ...........
BTW, I am interested in what you've done to increase the width of the stock GTV6 wheels. Can you tell me how you did them? Thanks, brian

Thanks Brian, believe it or not I have a call every month for the carb GTV. I think collectors are realising there are only 212 made in an Alfa Romeo factory and will be a valuable car some time like the GTA. Maybe by then the world has run out of fuel.
The rims were made up from a spare set of 164 rims which were sliced and the dish welded on to the 2.5 rim. making it 7j wide. I would only recomend it if its done by a pro who specialises in this and has a proven track record. If not stay far away.
Just sold my set to Barry as I cant fit them over my new brake set up. Its a pitty as they look awsome and makes the car look more filled out 'stockier'.

Hood

Post by cchan »

Hi Kevin,

Your Alfa's look great. I am looking into doing something with my Hood. I have the Zender Hood but I am not sure if I want to install this. I like the way the 3.0L carb hood looks. It apears from the pictures that this is non-functional. I think I must be looking at this incorectly since I know on our road runner with the air grabber, when we opened it up to race, it made a great diffence since it feed the air directly into the carb. Please advise.

Again, your Alfa's look great and even if the hood is non functional, it still looks great and is a much better looking hood than my USA one. :D

The hoods were totally functional as we drilled holes in front of the big airbox that sat on top of carbs for RACING. The face of the airbox lined up perfectly with the hood. Did not really work when rained however. Just closed it up at the track. No point for fuel injection.
These hoods looked really good in conjunction with the deep 3.0l front spoiler.
I would stick with the standard hood or even the Zender one and a deep front spoiler. Still looks aggressive
Going to look at my first 8C in the flesh tomorrow. Cant wait

Cchan, I think a 3.0l hood will ruin the looks of your car as its already perfect. Buy a set of semi slicks and do some track days.
Cheers

Fernando, got stuck in traffic with all the traffic lights out(load shedding) but I hear it will be at the Jeremy Clarkson MPH show at the end of the month, see it then. I liked British Autocar rating of the 8C. They said its sound was really spine chilling and gave no bad views on anything. So now they are making a 1000 convertables.
Off to Swartkops tomorrow.
Cheers
