New Alfa Owner

Post by don hodgdon »

Greetings all and Merry Christmas!

Look what followed me home! Local car, one family, two owners, 80,000mi. Needs some TLC but seems like a good base car to start with.

Any other owners here on the Central Coast (CA)?

Yes, a very merry Christmas! :D

The Volvo is the daily driver and one of two Volvo turbos I own. The 740 is going to have to go to make room for the Alfa and I'm not the least bit happy about it. I've never owned a more reliable, comfortable and fast freeway hauler than this car.

Don't know about the interior, when I bought the car I was told that red with tan leather was a factory option in '85...and that 3 of the 4 GTVs in the area are red with tan leather.

Hey Don, sorry about the dig. Gotta confess the wife owned a Volvo a little while back. Dam fine cars for certain purposes. Built like a brick shithouse (tough). :D

No worries, I've been driving Volvos since 1971...I'm used to the "digs".

Don nice car,I really like the interior.Kind of reminds one of the classic Ferrari combo...red body, cream leather interior and black dashboard. :D

Hope your GTV6 brings you much joy.

Worked on the car a bit this weekend; replaced the dead hatch strut, MUCH better now :) and cleaned up the engine bay. I was able to replace a few of the original hoses, the car seems to run slightly better for it.

Today I'm trying to refasten the rear-view mirror to the windshield...big fun!

Finally ironed out the mechanical issues and got to take the car out for an afternoon cruise. It's running great and is a real kick to drive. I think I'm in love

Update cont.

Then in the last week I upgraded the DOT headlights to Cibie lamps along with new wiring and relays, and added a new steering wheel and shift knob. The wheel and shifter weren't necessary  , but go a long way towards improving the "feel" of the car.
