How much power does it have? In the US the 2006 E90 330i had 265 bhp, but they discontinued it and sold the 328i (3.0) with 235 bhp. But the 265 bhp engine apparently lives on in the X3 and X5 3.0.

I guess for the ring, you'd go for brakes and suspension first? The KWs are there, any plans for a BBK?

Over here it has 258Hp (N52).
I'm looking to do a chassis overhaul, subframe bushings and such. Diff bushings are pretty shot too. Need to go through all the bushings and joints and replace if necessary really. A lot of bushings and control arms can be replaced with M3 eqivalent parts.

The Ring isn't really that hard on the brakes, not compared to our tracks here in Sweden anyway and the 330 brakes are pretty large. May look at the 335i front brakes, they are huge.
With the right pads I think they are pretty competent.
With my 155 V6 I had zero issues on cheap pads for instance.

We'll see. 8)

Eh?

Are you planning some bolt on mods? Headers and intake? Maybe somekind of valved controlled exhaust? Open at the ring and closed during the trip?

There were a lot of posts just before I posted what kind of car it was but after there were only your post...
Are there any bolt-on stuff for the N52? I know about the intake and headers/manifold trick for the M52 but I'm not sure if they fit the N52 as well? Would love some extra cheapish horsepower. :)
My car has a butterfly in the exhaust alredy actually but I think it's stuck open, might need some more attenuation if the cats are removed -> made into a single race unit though.
I'm also thinking about adding another one to a cold air intake up front just to get some intake noise. I'll might have to do a little project of i and add an Arduino or Pi to control it, then I can have quiet or noisy at will. 8)

yes

No of course not, too busy with other stuff...

So what is the plan / framework:
a street legal weekend/fun car, with occasional trackday use?

Exactly.

A lot of driving, not so much wrenching and definetly no rust repairs... 8)
The wrenching to be done is just for tuning. Well, except for the initial 'zeroing' of the car.

Ring tripplanned for this summer, we should meet up and go back to that Italian resturant. :D

Nice , problem is everything is gonna be to perfect with no tweaking , fixing , paching so life's gonna be boring :D
But you will ever miss a track day and even have perfect visibility and warm feet in a snow storm .

The way I see it is that I can focus on the tweaking and adjusting without having to put massive time into designing and making each part. Do the fun stuff and none of the time consuming, and for most of the time, boring parts. :)

I can also use it daily if I want to, so not only five times a year with the use of a trailer...

:D beemers also break. It is just another type of crowd.

A lot of stuff you can just buy.. that's why 50% of the cars on the ring are beemers, I guess.
And off the shelf there are potent enough engines :wall:

Only thing left is do u like the driving feeling of bmw, the way it moves, sounds, seating position, steering sensation. etc... It is a potent car but i just find it too predictable and boring...

I have a benchmark corner I use to get a feeling for how well the chassis work.
With my old 9-5 I could enter at around 90kph, my whole body screaming "you're going to crash!", the 155 V6 manage around 100kph with a slight drift really on the limit...
My E91, the 320d touring I entered at 110kph first time without even thinking about it, mid corner I realized I was going pretty fast and glanced at the speedo.

My point is that che chassis inspires confidence and is very competent, it's just THAT good. But you say it's boring because it's too good? You need some quirkiness to keep your adrenaline level? :)
