Great, finally the production of carbon fibre is going to be upped, will be lower prices in the end I think.

Anyone know what the fatigue strength is in this application?
I dont know too much about cf..
French cars are shit and shit expensive to service and bloody awful and unreliable and expensive and friends don't let friends drive french cars and you wait years for parts.

Fatigue? Certainly it can't possibly be worse then aluminium... :)

The big problem with all composites is detection of imminent failure whether it be chronic (fatigue) or acute (catastrophic). The US military has done most of the work in this area. It looks as if the commercial side and the FAA are satisfied that sub-par components can be detected and removed from service. I sure hope they are right!

As I understand it the sub par parts take themselves out of service...A friend that is a United A&P said the've had several ocations of nacelle panels falling off and at least 1 in flight (airbus aircraft, he told me what model, it was only one model, but i forgot)

I have a frind in pilot training in the US right now, he would probably be very interested! :shock: :)

And yes, he is a transaxle nut too, pretty wild 75 3.0 in the garage.

I suspect that carbon fiber will hold up really well. Not that it matters to us freight pilots, we only get planes after the passenger airlines have all the bugs and defects worked out.
