Chevy Lumina and Roadblocks.
Sunday was one of those slightly strange days for me.Early morning I got to see a nice gunmetal grey GTV6 3.0 litre with the origional Compo's fitted.
A few hours later going down Hendrik Potgieter for those Saffa's reading this,I got caught up in a roadblock.Lo and behold what have our 'beloved' Metro cops pulled over but two GTV6 3.0 litres, one white and one in red.. I thought I was done for but they just waved me through, much to my relief.Have no idea why they pulled these two blokes off though as it wasn't a speed trap type road block.
Then I got taken for a drive in a Chevy Lumina 6 litre V8 pick up truck with the six speed automatic box. This thing is not shy and easily pulls over 140 km/h in second gear... Sound, despite an aftermarket exhaust system,is quieter inside than my 3.6 but slightly louder on the outside on initail start up. Gut feel makes me seriously doubt it would beat mine in a traffic light grand prix though.
Then going home I get pulled over by two Metro cops on a quiet road and get informed my handbrake is not up to scratch.Cop ask me if I am a boxer, how the goverment is amking him fine me,how if I was a taxi he would confiscate my licence disc etc. Then I knew R100 and he tells me have a great day.
To finish it off I saw yet another GTV6 3.O in gun metal grey.
The last time I saw this many GTV6's was at the Alfa Club day.

OK.. so now you know there are cameras at N1 south/N12 split
In the states, they sell off angle blocking lenses to cover your plates ...straight on, you cant tell
http://www.jammersstore.com/anti_photo.htm
this would have been perfect for you...and you could probably get this type of cover for the European style plates.
By the way..nice photos of your Alfa!!

At least you were actually doing something wrong. A lot of my friends lose their cars and licenses for sitting in a car park and being defected for modifications.Alfettish wrote:Yes we have a police problem in Australia. I got done going 120km/h in a 80km/h zone and lost my licence for 3 months and had to pay just shy of $1000AUD. I was in a peugeot 504.
New laws in queensland, you have *any* modification (ie a different steering wheel) you lose the car for 48hours and get a court appearance.

Jesus! I wont moan again about our pigs in the U.K anymore, you guys in OZ and SA have SS type policing, zero tolerance. mind you nissar, that second offence ticket, here in the uK you would likley lose your lisc for 1 year and get a big fine for doing 117mph/188kph even on a high way, if caught. So not too different there.
As for the modifications rule, the wide boys in england would run rings around the cops if they tried that on.

So I suppose you will have to get an engineer's certificate for ANY mods?Mezevenf wrote:At least you were actually doing something wrong. Yup, luckily for me the car is NSW registered
Plus its an Alfa so the cops tend to look the other way. If it were a Skyline I'd have lost the car a long time ago

Nice photo's there Nisaar... I work in Woodmead so we are practicaly around the corner from each other.
Just curious which open road are you refering to in Midrand ? The one I am thinking of links Midrand to Rivonia as it cannot possibly be the horrid N1 section past Allendale.
If I feel the need for some serious speed I still use the Krugersdorp highway, but after a carefull recce to make sure there are no camera traps or Metro cops lurking behind the bushes.
