Would never buy one that has been repaired though as it is a beatch to straighten/weld.
Nah, but it would mean you need to move to new ways of manufacturing and boron steel and such. Expensive but very good.

Talking about repaired cars, they pretty much repair anything here, they don't total a car based on safety but on how much it takes to fix it....sad, we had that same huge problem with my mom's scenic a few years ago when a tree managed to get in front of me, I walked out of the accident with nothing but a bruise (thanks airbag and seat belt), and they still wanted to fix the car, we sold it and bought a new one....sad to live in a third world country....
I got an idea.
Something for everybody.
Alfa should build two streams of cars.
One stream that has all the modern appointments that some of the markets seem to want to cater for buyers that just have to have electric everything.
A second stream for purely the enthusiasts that just want a "bare bones" essentials only type Alfa with a choice of front or rear wheel drive.
I'm deadly serious.
How else is Alfa going to win back the die hards? It certainly isn't going to happen by turning out more of the same..

I don't mind the weight, It' the FWD. why not trim levels, front or AWD like subaru, or even throw the transverse engine/trans in the back for RR instead of FF. I understand why FWD was cool in the 80's (it was supposedly better than RWD for handling in the snow, its cheaper and easier to build esp. as uni-bodies) but now technology is good enough with traction control and suspension designs that its horribly outdated

Had a friends 159 yesterday. I could have been a VW product, hadn't I known it was an alfa I never would have guessed. Seat height is at least 10cm too high making my head touch the headlining and the rear view incredibly annoyingly right in the middle of my field of vision.
Cockpit feels totally cramped and the steering is useless.

I know what you feel, the newer the cars, the harder to feel the car really...
I rented a 159 when I was in Paris about 1 and a half years ago, just when they came out, car is not all bad! Styling is beatiful, I thought the handling was very very good given the weight, I know it's not my 33 as far as agility goe (it's a big car, let's not be fooled) and the steering was very vague, again, comparing it to my 33....but i'd still buy it as my daily driver, and keep the Giulie for the weekend warrior...hehe
THATS being a true alfisti.
Personally I attend alot of Corporate meetings with the different airlines of the world . Every boring person has a VW Merc or BMW You Just pull up with a GTV6 it turns heads That exhaust tone is un beatable. But the lights are lousy the seats mess you up the stearing is Heavy and if you wannna turn right around you need to do a 12 point turn .
But the thing is you over look all of this.
THats What I think ???

It's day 5 without my GTV6 and I am already suffering serious withdrawl symptoms.
When I was forced to drive a Virtualy Worthless POS for a year I never suffered any pains from not driving the VW.
Had to fly around the country for work and got to drive some real run of the mil hire cars.First up a new Toyota Corolla....How on earth do people willingly cough up money for something that is bland it could threaten to put a petrol head into a coma within 5 kms ? Lifeless steering, anodyne engine note, notchy gearbox...don't moan about our gear boxes until you have tried some other supposedly better cars out there..

Its evil, I went straight for a while, Big hp barges were like a methadone program when going cold turkey didn't cut it. Motorbikes were like ice, addictive, dangerous, and daily use will alter your reality. But the Giulia was like that hit of a familiar, but so much more addictive drug. I'm embarking on the road of peddling my big HP methadone to other junkies, so i can finance a hell of a bender on this new old friend.
But yeah, i've driven/thrashed a few of the modern rental cars... they all suck, some more, some less.
Toyota Corolla: Mediocre
Toyota Camry Sportivo: Dire
Toyota Echo/Yaris/thing: shithouse.
Daewoo Kalos: I'd rather masturbate with a handfull of broken glass.
Hyundai Getz: Supprisingly fun as a manual, gayer than a sack of dicks as an auto.
The bit of time I've spent in the passenger's side of a 156 selespeed, driven in auto mode no less, makes me think of a corolla with upmarket trim, where the gearbox has been replaced with a series of rubber bands...

The problem is that while the old cars were great to drive and handled good in std trim. The 159 is just like a Passat with a useless driving position.nisaar wrote:Hey Mats Dont you see thats the thing about being alfa new or old they uncomfortable they bugger your back up poor build quality but the important thing is its alfa a true alfa fan over looks all these things.

(although the 159 3.2 JTS i saw today made some great noise, at least close to idle. Not like a tractor at all like the 156 GTA)
