Foam Reinforced Chassis

Post by Duk »

After reading about high strength foam being used to stiffen chassis in modern luxury cars, I sniffed around and found this: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/proje ... index.html
This lead me to: http://foamseal.org/auto_aftermarket.htm.
An attempt at sending an email was a complete failure (their email system might be down).
The obvious advantage of the Foamseal is the pressurised delivery system.
Because I also found: http://www.uscomposites.com/foam.html.
Obviously not a pressurised delivery system.
Now after reading that the SZ has bonded pannels to strengthen the chassis enough to allow it to use coil springs inplace of torsion bars, filling as many chassis cavities in the front of a 116 chassis with a high strength foam, seams to me to be a worthwhile pursuit.
An added advantage is a reduction of noise transfer.
If I can get my hands on some of the Foamseal packs, I'd love to try it out and report on the results, but their website says no credit card payment and I wasn't even able to email them.
Failing that, the US Composite foam could be used if a pressurised delivery system could be devised cheaply.
Thoughts and opinions please 8)
