How many Racers on the forum?

Post by Mats »

How many of the users on this forum has been in a competition in their Alfa? I participated in the first race of my second season yesterday and it was just fantastic. :D
Finally had a tight race with a couple of other GTVs (Alfettas and a Bertone) and it was almost too much fun for me to handle, last season it was all kinda like F1 races, after the first lap you are evenly spaced out and no action, not so this race (maybe it was due to the fact I had to start in the last spot due to my wisit to the beach in the qualification round? ).

So, anyone else? I know Micke is racing his GTV and Nizam is doing time-trial in his 75 but is there anyone else? :?:

Start of the race!

GT and GTVs as far as the eye can see, yes it was a good day...

No real racing, just fighting myself in achieving the prefect lap on the Nordschleife.
I'm more working on clean/smooth driving, with the underpowered TS.
G forces from cornering is my thing ....

Sometimes a comparable car/driver is in front/behind, which gives some extra urge to push

I am planning on running my car in autocross and some informal open lap events. First, I have to actually get the car in my possesion!

Maurizio: Hey, you got more power then my 2.0 carb... ;)
Why not enter an event? Too much stuff to do before getting the car and yourself race-legal?
It's well worth it! :D

Yeah sure

OK, mainly no budget
Dutch alfa romeo trofeo is way out of my league, much $$$$. Car is already to much modified (coil overs, negative camber back) to run in a standard class, like the german alfa romeo roockie cup. And I like the setup to much to step back :)

I think I need a lot more track hours before I feel I could be a little competitive. Car has no cage yet, still thinking of doing it myself and good or the easy way (omp or sparco).

But the idea is apealing. The battles I have had for several corners, where power is subsidiary, with serous cars (M3, elise, 911) where real fun, but still I take a step back when it becomes to close, no room for errors on the ring.

But first to much to do to get my engine ready and the car driving again, haven't driven on the track since september last year. More driving instead of fiddling around. I’m a mechanical engineer and design a lot on the edge, so with my car it is very difficult to leave things as they originally are when I start on something

When I have grown more bucket seat flesh, I will have a look around what is still possible to enter with my car.

Mats those pictures really upset me  I would love to participate in an event where there are so many Alfas.I'm into my second year of Solo1 (time trials) and I've never run across another Alfa except 1 164L at Watkins Glen. There aren't many Alfas left in my area (Montreal) due to rust winter etc.and the ones that are here are basically show pieces.Shame that these cars which thrive in a track environment aren't put to better use.All I ever run against are Japanese and German cars.My skills are slowly improving but my car (86 GTV6) remains far more capable than me.This weekend I did some racing and am finding that one of my car's real strengths is its ability to outbrake more modern cars-stock Brembo fronts- stock ATE rears with Porterfield R4 pads.I've never come close to loosing my brakes and keep finding that I can get a little more out of them. This almost makes up for the lack of grunt on the straights when compared to the 200HP.Civics and 220Hp Golf VR6s.Some time this year I'll take my 75TS out on the track to see how it does.I suspect that the better transaxle will mean its almost as quick as the GTV6.It certainly feels nimble on the road.

I'd say it's probably quicker...
Better final drive and almost the same Hp, better weight dist. Do not underestimate the power of a stock 75 TS. ;)

BTW. This race was on the 59 latitude North, so I'll have none of those arguments please. ;)

I TT my 75. I have an event in 3 weeks at Buttonwillow. The car to beat in my class is a Jr. Z 2.0 Turbo. I have beaten him at Laguna in 2004 but he is fast and he beat me at Laguna in 2005.

My excuse was I borrowed Nizam's worn out Hoosiers, I put them in the back. So I had 225/50/16 Kumhos in the front and 205/45/16 Hoosiers RS303 in the back. Major oversteer at nearly every corner :-). Still only lost by 1 sec.

Ps cage looks nice too.
I've seen more 75's with a similar cage, is it for sale as a kit?

Yeah, comes as a pile of pipes, rough cut and needs trimming.
All tubes that should be bent are bent to the right fit. Trimming and welding is needed.
You can specify how safe you want it by adding or subtracting tubes all within the FIA regulations.
Or you can fit it there, your wallet usually makes the choise for you; pile-of-pipes is about 300USD, fitted-in-car is about 1500-2000USD depending on spec. but this will give you a certification that follows the cage.
Like the one in the Le-Mans blue GT, very nice...
