Baz,

Haha how did you know? Actually broken Alternator on Interstate-5 at 1am last weekend (my track weekend too). Thank you AAA. :D

Mef,

I dunno about Alfa "gods", probably too drunk after too much veno.

Alfa doesn't have the ability to pull out competitive engines anymore. Especially when it comes to big capacity engines.

BMW had Vanos in 1993 in their M50 engines, and then twin vanos in the E46 328i. What did Alfa have? Oh yeah 6 chrome runners. The 24V V6 was in production for 12 years, what development did Alfa R&D do to it besides having it in different capacities? Did we see VVT? What about variable intakes?

At least the new engines have JTS heads and pistons. I wouldn't say it's completely Alfa (for sure it's not, it's mostly GM), but it's not like a SEAT with a VAG engine. 100% no SEAT stuff in it.

But hey if it is good it is good. I'm not going to knock it down just because others say it's made by holden so it MUST be bad. Well at least it has to sound like an Alfa, not like a BMW. And I've heard from a Brera owner who used to own Busso V6 cars that his new 3.2 JTS is good.

Let's look at its technical merits before we condemn it. After all why wouldn't I want to have a 260 bhp which doesn't leak much oil :) . But who knows maybe the boys at Holden can't do shite and the new V6 will still piss oil.

Hey guys, no BMWs for me. It's either Alfa or Hondas. Nothing beats VTEC (or iVTEC these days) hehe.

Am I the only one who is noticing how big the Brera is? It looks great, I really like the styling, but I never realized how big it was until seeing it next to a GTV6.

I actually have high hopes for the new motor. I have not seen it yet so I don't know anything for sure. We tend to discount the G.M. V6 motors because historically they have been used in some pretty dull vehicles. However they are good engines. Many G.M. V6s can handle 1000 horsepower. No production Alfa engine can do that. If we get Alfa heads on a stout G.M. block we just might have something.

Barry, a BMW 535i? Don't make me post a drag race video.

well, when I was in France I rented a 159, I don't know if I posted pics somewhere, seriously, it was so well built that I couldn't beleive it was an alfa, plus it handled, too bad it was a diesel but they didn't have any other engines, the thing is that I went to an alfa dealership, and definetely yes, the brera is big, but very very good looking, don't know, if I was to do things over again, had the money and the brera was imported here, I would definetely buy myself a Brera or 159 V6 JTS and leave the Giulie to be a semi track project...can't beat good building quality and comfort...

Well, from personal experience with the Holden V6, I'll just say this...

Its B-O-R-I-N-G!

As I said, I hope Alfa do something to make the engine more Alfa-ish. Hell, what Alfa doesnt eat oil? lol :D

I've stood next to the Brera in person, and its not *that* big. Hell, the GTV6 is a rather small car compared to basically all modern cars.

Park your GTV6 next to a "new" mini and see how big new cars really are.
Why do you think new cars need so much hp to get decent performance? Try to find a sub 1200kg car these days and there's not that many. Try to find a sub 1000kg new car and I think you've bought the Lotus Elise.
The perfect mix is GTV6 with newer Alfa motor, say a 3.0 24v - oh, hang on, that's what I'm doing.

Barry: 5 liter M60?? You mean the S62?

Greg: You should see the 159, HUGE!

Mef: Only the block remains untouched as far as I know, heads and everything else is Alfa.

I did park my GTV6 next to a new Mini the other day. The GTV6 is smaller in every dimention except length. The Mini is quite a bit shorter.

New mini is shorter on overall length but has a longer wheelbase than the GTV6. Definitely not a real mini. Small cars just aren't that small anymore.

As far as alfa's big capacity engines are concerned, have you heard about the new engine for the Brera GTA? 4.2litre V8 440hp and 550Nm, sounds quite appealing to me. The engine is being built together with Maserati. Eveythig is better than Opel (GM) isn't it?

Come on, we are not talking about the old and seriously crappy Opel V6 that can't even be used as a boat anchor, the HFV6 look good on paper and from what I have heard it is very nice to drive.
I have had some hands on work on the HFV6 itself and it is very nicely packed and looks the part, unlike the old Alfa V6 which is very bulky with the cambelts and other stuff. Plenty of good gearboxes too, the F40 box (yes, thats the code for it, 6 speed manual) in the Saabs seem pretty much indestructable, not like the old 164 box that scrapped diffs like nothing else.
