Your ideal Alfa
There a lot of us out there tinkering away at out old Alfas trying to make them just the way we like them and let's hope that never ends.
When it comes to buying a new one off the shelf, what sort of Alfa would you REALLY want? My new Alfa should be:-
A two door coupe.
Two seats.
3 Litre V6, quad cam injected six cylinder, midship mounted.
Turbo option.
All wheel drive.
6 speed manual.
LS Differentials.
Brakes that actually stop. No ABS bull shit.
Gear selection that is slick and works.
Drive lines that stay together.
No power steer.
No electric windows, heated jock straps, seat movers/adjusters and two thousand other electric copies of Japanese style needless doodads.
Minimalist everything except performance items. Leave the luxuries out and stick 'em in the rolling lounge rooms on wheels.
Heaters, air con, hi-fi, GPS, etc to be offered as optional extra not built in.
A factory roll cage built into the bodywork as standard.
Good power to weight ratio.
Individual style and looks and suspension to match the tear arse performance.
If Alfa Romeos are race inspired, let's see it.
Well that's my features shopping list. What's yours?

Transaxle Alfas Haul More Arse
I'd pick something like an F40 but at a tenth of the price
Small capacity quad cam V8 TT, rear drive with no active diffs or crap, low weight high hp. All feel for the driver with no computer over rides to save your sorry ass when you over cook it into a corner.
And some driving lessons in a supercar.

I dont get it. Everybody that loves sportcars and driving want RWD mechanical driving machines, so why automakers are making sportcars with so many electronics and some even FWD. Even my grandmother can drive a Ferrari Enzo, but I dont think she could drive an F40. Everybody knows a real sportcar should be a well balanced RWD, why are they trying to sell us FWD sporcars. A FWD car isnt a sportcar, Idont care its performance. I think we should stop buying modern sportcars. Modern cars are for monday to friday, on weekends we should drive pre electronic assisted cars. I really think that a guy who buys today a Mini Cooper S is homosexual. Driving FWD sportcars is gay. Real men dont need power assist, ABS, traction control, clutch less paddle shifters, and all that electronic shit. And why are car manufacturers building sportcars with GPS. I´m a men, I dont need a stupid TV screen in my dash board with a geek map and a girl voice telling me were to make a turn. The only things I need in my dashboard are dials to control how my motor is running. I wont spend my money in new boring to drive sportcars. I dont care how fast they are. Its a more thrilling experience driving to the limit my 84 GTV6 than an AWD 2006 Audi S4. He can go faster but I have more fun.

I was set to go to the Geneva auto show last year (I was visiting Geneva at the time). I ended up getting really sick. Possibly as a result of going to the winter olympics and staying the nights in bars instead of renting rooms.
The fact that I missed seeing that concept adds insult to injury. Very cool, too bad it is opposite the direction Alfa seems to be going (heavy, AWD, and loaded with gadgets. I guess that is what the BMW customer they are targeting wants...
As for drive train type, MD called for AWD, many purists have called for RWD. I love RWD, and I love front engine rear transaxle layout. I want RWD to be faster, most of the fastest cars in the world are still RWD, but it seems like the tide is turning. Will AWD traction be necessary to compete 10 years from now? Will RWD be relegated to novelty status?
