I just replaced the stock exhaust on my '86 GTV6 with an ANSA "free-flow" system, in which the old center section with the resonator is replaced by straight pipes from the catalytic converter to the small aft muffler and twin tailpipes.
The sound is terrific, but much "throatier" and somewhat quieter than I had expected.
What's most interesting is that performance is noticeably improved, and there is a measurable increase in gas mileage. It is a much livelier car with the new exhaust system.

Re: ANSA "Free-flow" system
That's interesting. That Ansa set up was on my car when I bought it and I was thinking about going back to the stock system. Now I'm having second thoughts.
