Mike, waddaya expect, it's on a Mazda forum.
Mazda owners are freaks - I know a few quite well.
One currently owns 7 different Mazdas and would never look at buying any other brand.
Us Alfa freaks would never be that closed minded would we ?

Well the funny thing is, I actually think Mazda makes fine cars and so do other Japanese manufacturers. Not prepared to say they excite me much off the show room floor but they are built well and to my knowledge, very reliable. These manufaturers deserve some respect. Nothing new there.

My point is more about the nature of the Mazda owner. Expecting constant perfection. Taking little risk. Reliability at all cost. Where is the element of chance, the sense of voyeurism, the leap of faith in a marque that boasts formula 1 credentials to come up with a machine that panders to the driver instead of the passenger in you?

Yes I do admit I have had my share of minor failures in my Alfas over the years but I have never spent time on the roadside due to a breakdown. I consider key elements of the Alfa as tough as any on the planet. Bullshit items that fail are just that, bullshit.

Would I ever swap my Alfa with all its good and bad points for the perfect Mazda? ...er, cut the leg off first mate.

All the newer Mazdas I have been in are characterized by: Useless seats, back pains after about 5 minutes, and total lack of sound proofing... Deaf after another ten.

...yes I can imagine that given your body size and a typical Japanese user but you left out the key issue.

Are they reliable?

I love reading topics on something informed purely by hearsay and 'my mate said' knowledge. Good for a laugh.

Hi Guys...Interesting topic... Personally I think Mazda’s are great cars. They do what they need to do. But they just don't evoke any passion.
To be telling the truth, the most exiting Mazda's must be the Rotary powered cars, and if you look at cars from the same era as our cars, have as many quirks as our Alfa's. When it comes to reliability, well I see way more Alfa's from the sixties, seventies and eighties on the road than Mazda's. Maybe not good correlation, but it suites me...lol

Actually that was the ironic thing. You'd think for a group of people sick to death of the false image as to the reliability of rotaries, you'd understand you're doing the exact same thing to another car.

However, I don't know about lack of passion- Rotor owners will beg to differ about the engines not inspiring passion!

I'm not even close, but if I ever crack it with Alfas, I know I could definitely own an R100 with a 13B Turbo or Bridge Port. Pity the suspension is archaic, but they look great- but when you buy an Alfetta for looks (they are, after all, the first attraction), you get a reasonably modern classic, with good handling and safety built in. The reliability may need a little work, but at least they don't chew the juice like a rotor!
