Broken water pump bolt

Post by dcefali »

The lowest water pump bolt broke off while changing out the water pump. I have tried kroil, torches, ice, welding a nut on, etc. So I am ready to just drill it out and put a heli coill insert, but the bolt is so close to the crank pulley, the drill chuck hits the pulley. I tried to get the crank pulley off, but I can't seem to. It just bends whatever I wedge in the crank guibo.

Does anyone know of a special close quarters drill, or chuck? I am getting awfully close to having to pull the motor if I can't fix this problem.

Thant's some bad luck, broken water pump bolts are not uncommon (use anti-seize when putting things back together) but pulling the crank pully is best done with an impact wrench, and to do that you need to have the radiator, AC condenser and front spoiler off, and have a big extension. I have done it before, but pulling the engine maybe easier if you don't have a ig impact gun.

Good excuse for a new 3.0

Post by dcefali »

Well, it seems that no matter which way I turn I am in for pulling the motor. And If I gotta pull this sucker, I'm a gonna plug in a 3.0. So my friends at APE have a nice Verde 3.0 on its way. Who woulda thought a water pump changeout would turn into a 3.0 Conversion! Iam also going to have a freshened up transaxle delivered too, as long as the driveshaf and exhaust are out Yippee!
