Help: Titanium valvespring retainers

Hi!

I have a vague memory of someone selling titanium valvespring retainers, but I can't seem to find the post anywhere! Have I dreamt this?

Please post the link if you know what I'm looking for.

Also, if someone tried it, tell me why and what you think. Also tell me why I should not use them.

As I've looked into this matter I could cut in (for a change)

The stock retainer is 17g. The Ti part will be about half if it has the same design. Now do not expect any miracles as the weight of the valve chain will not change a lot. In the 4-banger the intake valve is 110 g. The follower 42 g and the retainer 17. Thus a 50% weight saving in the retainer will save 5% weight which again will allow about 2.5% higher rpm.

As I'll use Ti valves, retainers and locks the scenario looks a bit different 8)

However, as they are cheap, I'd go for them too.

If anyone has a source for light followers I'm all ears.

where did you but your ti valves? Are they oversized? :D

I'm not thinking of weight in first hand, but that they will not wear down as fast...

They are HUGE and need to machined down from >2" to 47-48 mm (for the TS).

They need bronze guides and preferably Be-Cu seats. If the seats are too hard the valves will wear down very fast.
I'll fix these issues with a diamond coating.

Head isn't ready yet. It's not my expertice anyway so I'll have someone do it.
Your TP for money is getting valuable so maybe it will get cheaper doing something over here one of them days. BTW, we just picked up a 164Q4 and a fiberglass hood for my GTj from Sweden witht the same boat.

Ti can get tired. However, the valves are not parts with this kind of stress. Main durability concern is wear against the seat. This is a problem for the nsacar guys with 1/2 kg pushrods revving up to 8500... In my case I might have to adjust valve lash every 5 years or so.

I recall some bikes using Ti for the stock valves and the new GT3RS using Ti con rods.

I think the Ducati bikes uses both Ti valves and camshafts.... :roll:
