A few 3.0 v6 tech questions

Post by zackspeed »

Hi, been lurking on this ste for about 8 months now and have learned alot. there must be something wrong with me because i just purchased my second alfa, an 81 GTV6. the car is in good condition (i.e. very little rust) but not so nice that it needs to be kept in perfect original condition. so on the schedule is a 3.0l transplant from a donor 164S. i tried getting some of this info on the alfabb site but all they seem concerned about are 4 bangers and i got no answers. so i'm hoping that i can get some here. anyway heres a copy and paste of my original thread from alfabb. oh and the name of the software is called "pipemax".

my buddy and i are playing with some software that helps with designing headers and intakes for engines. you plug in some numbers about your engine then it spits out all kinds of data that can help with header and intake tract lengths and sizing and potential power output. i'm hoping that at least some people here will know the numbers i'm looking for. i've been using the service manual and found most but here's what i need still for a stock 164 S engine.
1. intake and exhaust cam duration @ .050 in. of lift.
2.cam lobe center degrees for both intake and exhaust
3.rocker arm ratio for exhaust so we can figure the actual exhaust valve lift
4.intake port centerline length
5.volumetric efficiency of the head (optional but the more data the better)
i've also been on pins and needles about jim k's new v6 book.
thanks in advance.
Ciao

Ciao...Pins and needles huh? Get lots of band-aids or find some other place to crash (like a couch) 'cause the book is gonna take a while (figure by the time it finally comes out, most of us would have long given up driving! )
1) 230*/226* (rocker ratio already factored in)
2) 111*/109*
3) 1.4:1 Ex valve lift = 9.16mm
4) 9cm from back of valve(head only, no runners)
5) Yeah, right!

woo hoo! Thanks so much Jim! thats ok about the book i guess, the GTV6 is going to be a long term project. I've got my 164S (not the donor car) to drive every day. I sure love that engine, i just wish the car were'nt FRONT WHEEL DRIVE! hence the GTV6 purchase.

Mats, I know exactly what you mean about those wet noodle chassis, live axle, hairdressers cars. they just do not interest me at all. about my tag, i picked it b/c it happens to be my name and i like to follow DTM. 8)

heres a pic of a cool US model escort.

and here is what i get to play with sometimes

I might be wrong, but I don't think you can legally place a Ford Escort next to a Ferrari........even in pictures

sorry didn't mean to be disgusting. i'll make up for it with some better pics. here are a couple from last years vintage car races at our new racetrack miller motorsports park. the first is my 2 yr old son in a gt40 mk4. then a McClaren M8 Can Am car. that place is huge. 4 1/2 miles long! and i'll also post the results from the pipemax software.
